| VeeZee's Full Review: Sesame Street - Elmo's Talking Driver |
My son loves cars and Elmo, so when I saw Elmo's Talking Driver on sale for half price at Amazon.com, I jumped at the deal. The toy is basically a ten inch wide activity tray. My son immediately fell in love with the variety of interactive features on the toy. I like the fact that he can operate the toy easily.
It includes a steering wheel that turns around, a horn in the center of the wheel with Elmo's face that says "Beep, Beep, Coming Through!" when pushed, a turn signal that you can move to activate blinking lights and sounds, an ignition switch that when turned sounds like a car starting, a gear shift that you can move and which makes a revving motor sound, three different colored buttons with the faces of Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Ernie which when pushed say "Buckle Up", "Me Drive Car", and "Driving Is Fun", and a button that when pushed plays music.
The variety of colors, sounds, and sights attract a toddler's attention and the various moving features encourage manual dexterity. The volume is loud and fixed, as there is a speaker right on the front of the toy, but the sound is clear. It doesn't drain batteries like I expected it to. We have yet to change the original batteries. It uses three AA batteries. The surface is easy to clean with a damp cloth.
The toy is fairly lightweight and easy for my son to carry around, although if dropped it can hurt feet and toes. We've taken it for trips to grandma's several times. If you can handle the sound, it can be a lot of fun for your little one when riding in the car because they can pretend that they are also driving. It has proven to be a durable toy, although after repeatedly being banged around in the toy box, the color on the tip of Elmo's nose is wearing off.
This toy is recommended for the ages from one year of age to four years of age. It currently lists for $19.99 at Amazon.com and is made by Fisher Price Inc. Here's the link for this toy at Amazon.com so that you can find out more:
