Cons:side tray falls off, makes noises by itself
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Sesame Street Surprise Sounds Kitchen. It is very durable, entertains your child for long lengths of time and teaches colors.
When I purchased the Sesame Street Surprise Sounds Kitchen at my local Toys R Us store almost three years ago for $30.00, I had no idea what a great purchase I was making. My daughter, Courtney, was almost one year old at the time, and I thought it would be a cute first kitchen for her. It turned out to be not only that, but so much more!

The kitchen stands about 18 inches tall and is 18 inches wide, therefore it doesn't take up too much space. Now you may be thinking, how much fun can you fit in such a small space? The answer is a whole bunch!
The kitchen comes with everything necessary to provide hours of cooking and learning fun. It has a phone that makes a *dialing* and *ringing* sound when picked up, a timer that makes a *tic toc* sound when the knob is turned, salt and pepper shakers that make a *rattling* sound when shaken, a sink that when your child presses the faucet makes a *running water* sound and a toaster that when your child presses down on one piece of toast the other piece pops up and makes a *boing* sound.
You're probably thinking, Wow all that! But wait, there's more! The kitchen also comes with three pots and pans, a spoon and a spatula. One of the pots is red with Elmo and popcorn pictured on the side. One is blue with Cookie Monster and soup. And the last one is yellow with Big Bird and fried eggs pictured. Here's where the learning part comes in. On the top of the kitchen there is a green button, below this button are three colored rectangles(blue, yellow and red) with buttons next to them with pictures of Cookie Monster, Big Bird and Elmo. When your child presses the green button the rectangles flash and a ticking sound is heard. When this stops one of the characters says a phrase telling your child what pot to place on the stove. For example Elmo says, Time for popcorn in the red pot. When your child places the correct pot on the stove the sound of popcorn popping can be heard. If the wrong pot is put on the stove no sound is made. Pretty neat, huh?
Courtney absolutely loves the Sesame Street Surprise Sounds Kitchen. She plays with it almost everyday, making me yummy eggs, soup and popcorn. She then washes the dishes and hangs the pots and pans on the pegs located on the side of the kitchen and the utensils in the storage area on the top. She also loves to pretend to talk on the phone while she is cooking. (I wonder where she gets that from...lol)
When Courtney turned two I thought she was too old for the kitchen, so I put it in the basement and purchased a larger one. She liked the larger one, but insisted that the Sesame Street one be brought back upstairs too! She says it's more fun because Elmo and Big Bird talk to her!
As for durability I give the Sesame Street Surprise Sounds Kitchen 5 stars. It has been played with excessively, by Courtney, her four brothers, her friends and her cousins and is still in excellent shape. Everything still works!
So if your looking for a toy for your toddler that will keep their interest for more than a couple of months, I highly recommend the Sesame Street Surprise Sounds Kitchen. Your child grows with it, not out of it!
