redhotspicy's Full Review: Jason Natural Cosmetics Shampoo Biotin
My long, fine wavy hair needs gentle products, and Jason Natural Biotin Shampoo is a favorite in my shower.
Hair is dead, right? So a bunch of extra vitamins, nutrients, and secret ingredients tossed into a shampoo isn't going to magically transform your hair. But that doesn't mean that shampoo ingredients don't matter!
Shampoo is designed to clean the scalp and hair. Most drugstore shampoos rely on harsh sulfates as surfactants or lathering agents. Have you ever noticed that the cheapest shampoo brands seem to make the most luxurious lather? Well, that's because they contain a high concentration of harsh, stripping surfactants - most commonly sodium lauryl sulfate or ammonium lauryl sulfate.
Jason Natural Biotin Shampoo doesn't contain any harsh, drying sulfates. It features a "Hair nourishing formula" that is "concentrated, extra gentle, super shine".
Jason claims "Biotin Shampoo is formulated with botanicals and proteins to cleanse and soothe dry itchy scalp, repair split ends and helps slow down hair loss".
The packaging is attractive, a large, 17.5 ounce white plastic squeeze bottle. The bottle includes a blue plastic flip spout for easy dispensing.
One my favorite aspects of this shampoo is the scent. It has a delicious peppermint-candy scent. It's milder than regular peppermint, like a candy-cane. I love the aroma! The scent would appeal to both genders, so it's not too "girly" for a guy - actually, my fiance loves this shampoo!
Jason offers these directions: Apply to wet hair. Work into a lather and massage thoroughly. Rinse and repeat. For best results, follow with Jason Natural Biotin "Bio-Active" Conditioner.
I have long hair, but that doesn't mean I need a ton of this shampoo. I concentrate the shampoo on my scalp, after all it's my scalp that's oily/dirty, not the length of my hair! A quarter-sized amount is sufficient for me. The thick, pearly colored gel lathers very well into lots of suds, which isn't necessary for good cleansing but is certainly pleasant!
The shampoo rinses away cleanly, and my hair is ready for conditioner. I love this shampoo because it is fairly simply. I don't generally believe that the "Biotin, Planthenol-3, and selected botanicals combined with three proteins" that Jason advertises do much for my hair, but fact is, this shampoo is absent of harsh surfactants, non-soluble silicones, and other ingredients that damage my delicate hair.
After conditioner, my air dries into a lovely, CLEAN mass of waves that shine nicely. I attribute a lot of that to this shampoo. Hair IS dead, so no shampoo is going to restore luster, shine, and body with one washing, but I definitely think using a gentle shampoo is beneficial - no coating ingredients to dull shine, no stripping ingredients to remove natural protective oils.
