skadar's Full Review: Shangri-La Dee Da by Stone Temple Pilots
Ok, I'm not a music reviewer and I'm not a Stone Temple Pilots fan. I downloaded this CD from Usenet tonight and gave it a complete once through. Yikes! That's some painful stuff.
My musical tastes range across the entire musical spectrum. One day I'll listen to Sublime, the next day Smashing Pumpkins, the next Matthew Sweet, after that... a few days of the Misfits, then some Beethoven, followed up by a little Janet Jackson.
I like the grunge sound. Therefore, I like a lot of what Stone Temple Pilots have produced thus far. This album, however, sounds like Better Than Ezra crossed with the Foo Fighters... with a little bit of Radio Head thrown in. None of the songs have so much as a single hum-able riff. There is nothing memorable here, and much of it is actually grating and repetitive, grating and repetitive, grating and repetitive, grating and repetitive.
Stay clear! Go ahead and download it if you can... otherwise keep your money. I don't even think I'll waste CD burn space with these files. Yahoo! The try-before-you-buy concept actually paid of for me.
