What ever happen to the good old days when the women would do the washing and ironing. Times have changed in this department, now a days there is a role reversal revelation, where the dad stays at home and takes care of everything, such is the case with me. Plus, what about, when the kids were taught to iron their clothes and taking pride in what they wear to school and look like. When I was growing up, my mom taught me to iron everything, so that when I grew up I could take care of myself and look half way decent. Trying to get kids now a days to think this way is the ever impossible dream. But, if you are able to get your kids to do the ironing then don't stop teaching them, keep them going no matter what you have to tell them to get the job done. You may think that this is a hilarious sight, but just give them a can of spray starch and make a game of it and it may work. Even so, you will need a good iron to do this with, and this iron from Shark, model number G1568 10 is just what the doctor ordered.

This iron weighs 3 pounds and 13.4 ounces full of water, it is 12" tall, 7 ½" from the front to the back, and 5" from side to side. The hot plate on the bottom is 8-7/8" x 4 ¾" there is also 27 steam ports that are 1/8" in diameter. The overall color is silver and grey and there is a see through water reservoir between the handle and the body. This iron has a stainless steel sole plate, a rubber water inlet door, steam burst button, variable steam and a self cleaning option, an electronic temperature control, spray button, clear water level window, a cord that pivots, 4 fabric settings (linen/cotton, polyester, wool/silk, and nylon), LED temperature indicators, power light, auto-off light, anti-drip function, and a anti calcium filter.
It is hard to find ones with a retractable cord and this one is no different. You can also use this to give your clothes a shot of steam while they are still on the hanger. With just a push of a button a shot of steam will come out and hit your garment. There is an adjustable laver that will allow you to set the amount of steam that will come out. This iron will automatically shut off after sitting still for 7 to 9 minutes. All you will have to do is reset the iron, is by rocking it back and forth gently and it should turn back on..
The Shark comes equipped with a ten foot power cord. This has no dial that will allow you to regulate how heat is going to the hot plate, you will now see a lever on the right and left hand sides that will allow you to control these settings.
We have been using this iron for several months and did notice a big improvement in the way that it is working over that of our old one. This one uses a lot of water but it does have a bigger water reservoir to house the water. It is also nice that they supply a water refill cup to make it easier to refill your iron with. When you are using the steam to get those stubborn wrinkles out of garments or curtains as to using it for ironing alone, make sure that you keep your hands out of the immediate area because that burst of steam can scald you. We have been using it every day and have not had to reset the iron one time.
We did notice that the steam that comes out of the bottom is extremely hot and you can get burned if you are not careful. The other thing that we noticed was that if we were not careful with the heat setting we could melt or scorch the garment that we are ironing. If your clothing starts to stick to the bottom of this iron then you have it set too hot. Kids, above a certain age will love this because of the ease of use that this has. They can spray a nice light stream of mist of water out onto the clothes and just go back and forth until the wrinkles are gone.
You can also show them how much better their clothes looked than when they are not ironed. Our daughter loves to iron ever since we showed her how. We started out by letting her do things like hankies and washcloths and pillow cases. Then we started to let her experiment on all of her shirts but nothing too difficult. We used to have problems with the iron dripping water onto the clothes, but with this iron having an anti-drip function we now have no more drips. Also if you live in an area that has a lot of hard water deposits problems, this iron will help in that department. The anti-calcium function will solve this problem.
You should clean this iron about every two week to keep it working properly. Sometimes we forget but we do not have a hard water problem. This has a self cleaning setting that uses very hot steam to clean it, and you will need to do it over a sink. Keep doing this until all of the scale or water impurities are no longer present.
This only comes with a limited warranty that lasts only one year, but if you look in the manual there is a 1-800 number that you can call if you need help. You can also go to their website if you are having any trouble with your iron.
Unlike our old iron this one has the advantage of giving a blast of steam without removing the garment from the hanger or curtains from the rod. This will save you time and money at the cleaners. I highly recommend getting one of these especially the one that has the LED settings, this make it a lot easier to see instead of a dial. This is made by SHark but there are a lot of other steamers that are very dependable.
