quick copies
Written: Dec 21 '01 (Updated Dec 29 '02)
Pros:much faster then my computer printer
Cons:expensive ink
The Bottom Line: good if you want speed copies without setting up you computer
I had wanted a copier for many years but had put it off because of the price of the copiers and the expense of the ink and cartridges to refill this copier for free from a book club.
When I received it I set it up immediately it takes up a little more space then a computer printer but would fit easily on a school desk. The set up involved loading the drum and print cartridge it took about 15 minutes and then I was printing.
It prints in black and white and does enlarge and decrees the size of your copy. I have yet to have a paper jam but the instruction book gives directions on how to solve the problem. The copies are clear I have compared them to my computer copier scanner by HP and the HP is clearer but slower so if speed were the goal this would be the copier for you.
The copier is not to loud it. When it warms up it makes a slightly louder sound then becomes just a whisper this lets you know it is ready to use.
The controls are easy to use there are arrows that let you choose the number of copies to make and there is an enlarge feature with percents given these controls are all located in the front of the machine for easy access. The on off button is on the side and you must always turn off before you unplug the machine.
The cost at Staples for this copier is 299.00 the ink to refill costs around 100.00 is said to last for 30000 copies. There is a drum that also has to be replaced after 30,000 copies which is also around 100.00 the copier came with a cartridge that does 1500 copes. It uses standard copy paper I have not tried construction paper to see if that works but it might. I have now had this machine for over a year and have yet to refill the ink. You do have to clean the glass with a damp cloth and wipe dry if you start to notice black streaks in your copies.
If you are in the market for a copier to print out fast and not connect to your computer this might be good for you but if you want to connect to a computer and have less expense in replacing ink a computer copier, scanner printer might be a better choice.
