Pros: Nice on HD channels remember all channels are not HD
Cons: lasted one year needed to be replaced.
I'm writing this review one year after my Sharp Aquos 42" HDTV LCD TV was purchased. 2 months after we purchased it they came out with a newer model that is thinner and has a choice of picture in picture which, with a TV this big is a nice option to have because that was the first thing I noticed we Didn't have, however..........
Today they are coming to replace it!
What happened was a few weeks ago I noticed a vertical dark line coming down the right side of the TV. It was exactly where the picture stops when the picture doesn't take up the full screen. If you goggle vertical line on sharp Aquos you will find lots of people are having the same problem. It's seems to be a pixel line.
I got in touch with sharp and I had to send them several pictures of the screen by email.
They agreed to replace it but I found out that it will be a refurbished model that only has a one month warranty but, they extended it and gave me an additional 3 months. That ticks me off quite a bit considering a TV that was @ $1500 lasted only one year and is going to be replaced with refurbished model.
Think about how long the regular TV in your house has lasted.
Now I do like the picture but a couple of things to note.
I have Time Warner Cable. I have had to replace the cable box 3 times so far.
The biggest problem that happens is the sound goes off and on sporadically. Sometimes you have to reboot the TV which takes 15 minutes and then it will work again. I can't even tell you how many times I've rebooted this TV.
Next when you look at a regular channel it's not clear. Maybe if I were further away from the TV is would be a little sharper but if you're watching say an old TV show you definitely say to yourself hmmmmmmmm what's wrong with the picture.
Don't think you just buy this TV take it home and plug it in. You need accessories.
Be prepared to spend another $300- $1,000 on HDMI cables, regular cables, and surround sound. And yes you do need surround sound. There is nothing like watching an action movie in surround sound you HAVE TO HAVE IT.
For sports fans it's great. You can see the actual sweat drops on peoples skins. The blades of grass and it's like the person is actually in the room with you. My husband was in heaven during football season. So you sports fans are going to love it.
Hope my 92 cents helps others out. Enjoy your TV.
