Pros: Great location for a microwave--you'll appreciate not lifting heavy dishes into the drawer
Cons: Automatic cooking sensors need a little minding to get your food done just right
The Bottom Line: Sharp Microwave Oven has a drawer not a door; automatic options are tailored to specific foods like frozen bagels (joy!); Not too complicated to operate.

We remodeled our kitchen about a year ago, getting all new appliances in the process. Thanks to Epinions, I researched each one extensively and looked for innovative products without a designer price tag (if I could help it!).
The Sharp Insight Pro Microwave Oven KB-6015KS solved a major challenge in my kitchen design plan -- lack of space for an overhead microwave. Simply put, I wanted a double oven combo for the wall oven, and there was no room in the oven cabinet to also accommodate a microwave. And, I didn't have much wall space for an under-counter microwave, so I took a chance and went with this microwave, which opens like a drawer instead having a hinged door like typical microwaves. I can say after 15 months that I have no regrets about that decision!
I first saw the KB-6015KS in a high end specialty appliance store, but since then I believe it has gone more mainstream into appliance stores like the Great Indoors. Similar models to check out of the Sharp Microwave Drawer are KB-6024, KB-6025, KB-6002 and KB-6014. There is even a model with a built-in cooktop (which I considered for my kitchen) ~ KB-5121.
Here's a tip ~ when you see this KB-6015KS Sharp Microwave Oven in the showroom, don't pull the handle (it's just for decoration). The drawer opens and closes at push of a button. It extends about a foot into the kitchen space to allow for easy loading and unloading of food. The drawer's open and close mechanism is completely automatic ~ very impressive!
During my remodel planning, I hesitated to move my microwave activity to the waist level ~ after all, that is not where it traditionally takes place. However, I have discovered that it is actually safer and easier. For one thing, you do not have to lift large, heavy casserole dishes to chest level, especially full of hot food or liquid. Also, the microwave drawer contains about a cubic foot of space, but the dimensions are shallower and wider than the typical microwave. Its inner dimensions are about 14" by 15", so many large casserole or pyrex dishes fit easily inside the drawer.
The KB-6015KS microwave oven also doesn't require a turntable inside, which allows large oval or rectangular dishes to fit in without rotating around. Somehow, it cooks the food evenly without requiring food rotation!
Mostly, I use my Sharp Insight Pro Microwave Oven for reheating or defrosting foods. Some of the helpful features it contains are:
Sensor Popcorn: two bag sizes. Works well, but I usually add another 30 seconds to the automatic time to get more kernels popped.
Sensor Reheat: determines the time based on the steam it senses during the reheating. Sensor Cook: Fresh & frozen veggies, frozen entrees (love that one) and baked potato choices
Reheat: Fresh rolls, Frozen rolls (think Bagels!) and beverages
Defrost: Ground Meat (works well based on the weight of the meat); steak, poultry, casseroles and soups
Minute Plus A timesaver I use frequently...
One of the greatest pleasures of this device is the reheat frozen rolls option. Time after time, a frozen bagel will reappear from the microwave in perfectly edible condition, able to be sliced easily and at room temperature. Other microwaves I have used for bread will overcook it, steam it or make it very tough. In my opinion, that is a minor microwave miracle!
Overall, if you are looking for an alternative spot for your microwave, I highly recommend this innovative appliance for your kitchen. It is a paradigm shift in the microwave world.
