mbarnwatt's Full Review: Sharp Aquos LC-37D43U 32 in. HDTV-Ready TV
I considered many factors before purchasing my Sharp LC-32D40U 32" LCD Flat Panel TV November 1, 2006. I compiled a lot of research into the technical quality and specifications of the various models then available as well as learning about the High Definition Over The Air transmission issues for the Denver, Colorado area. It came down to Sony or Sharp after 4-6 months of research and looking at the various sets. The clarity and dark blacks on the screen and the quality of the surround sound speakers sold this set to me.
But 7 months later when the picture went dark, (sound still good), twice in 2 months, I reset the TV and got the entire picture back.
I called the Authorized Service Technician about it then and was told that if it could be brought in and reproduced they would repair it. It didn't reoccur... until late February 2008, when it rapidly progressed to picture going out in 20 minutes.
I called the Authorized Service Technician, who came out and said, Its the lamps behind the display. Theyre not available separately. if we could find the display, well replace the display for $1900.00, but the display is not available.
Sharp said, "So sorry, but it is not warranted after 12 months ".
$1,300.00 for 14 months of use seems to me to be an exorbitant amount to have the Sharp logo on the front of the TV. Maybe a small amount to some of you, but not a throw-away amount for me.
