Pros: Cleans pet, removes smell, long lasting battery life
Cons: Ion "shooter" can make unsettling noise
What's it all about?
The Ionic Pet Brush from The Sharper Image not only brushes a dog's fur, but also helps to remove the smell by releasing safe levels of ozone into the air. It, apparently, can be used for your pet as a replacement of a bath. It comes with two removable brush plates featuring different length combs -- one with longer bristles for long haired dogs (like ours) and another for shorter hair dogs.
How are the features?
If you look at the Ionic Pet Brush, you'd probably think that it wouldn't work. Well, to my surprise, it does. Although there aren't that many features to make it a gadget that you'd want to play with, it gets the job done. Here are the features that the brush comes with.
- First off, this pet brush runs off a 9 Volt Battery, which is great because the battery runs long. We've had this brush for nearly five months now, and with constant daily brushing, the same battery (which comes with the package) is still running fine. The battery is enclosed in the unit and can be removed like any normal battery.
- This Ionic Pet Brush is also simple to use. All you need to do is push a button, and the rest takes care of itself. You just simply brush your dog or cat's fur. One word of advice, however. The performance of the Ionic Pet Brush depends on your pet. Our Pomeranian hates to be brushed, so we fight him to get his fur combed. Apparently, longer hair dogs and cats don't like using any of the brush plates that comes with the unit, especially since it hurts their tangled hair.
- The unit also comes equipped with two interchangeable brush plates (as we've stated). Chances are, you'll only end up using one of them if you own one dog. The other plate, for us, sits in the box or collects dust on the dining room table.
How does it feel to use it?
It might feel strange at first to use this Ionic Pet Brush, especially since you are hitting your pet with "safe levels" of ozone. In a way, this pet brush is similar to the Quadra Ionic Breeze. If you don't mind the "safe levels" of ozone, then I think this product is for you.
Cost... Is it worth it?
For the $40 that you'll end up shoving out of your pocket for this brush, it seems to be worth it. It will be like your pet will have a shower every day, and with continued use, your pet will get used to the constant brushing. You'll probably also enjoy your pet's company a lot more, especially after this brushing.
So does it work?
Bottom line? Does it work. Yes, I would say it does work. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvement in the quality of fur for my Pomeranian. Although, I figure, results would vary, the only thing this brush has done for us has been to remove our dog's odor. Nevertheless, I would recommend this brush for it's overall pleasing performance.
