When Lil Mama burst onto the music scene-- wait. Let me start over.
When Lil Mama crept into the music scene, I wasn't sure if she was a hip-pop rapper or a cockroach. She was annoying, like a cockroach. She was disgusting, like a cockroach. And she spewed mucus (her Lip Gloss, maybe?), like a cockroach. However, would she keep rearing her ugly head? Yes, yes she would. While she may have more business sense in her than other dance one-hit wonders Nina Sky or Lumidee, Lil Mama isn't exactly the most original artist. In fact, after about three seconds she had already exhausted her bratty-sister persona, and her junior high facade was quickly wearing off before the time her debut single was done on the radio. Her abrasive vocals match her snarling look, but you can just tell she's about to crack in half. Her confidence is unwarranted, and somebody needs to give her a reality check-- Alicia Keys certainly did! Whenever an "artist" like this comes out of nowhere I tend to forget that in addition to the annoying hit, they usually have dropped a full-length album. You've heard of Souljaboy, but I'm sure you haven't associated him with a full record. Lil Mama was no different, and hers is called VYP (Voice of the Young People)-- she ain't my voice.
Shawty Get Loose is a hip-hop dance track that features (aka shares equal voice time with) Chris Brown and T. Pain, two of the more annoying people in music today, though I don't forsee Chris Brown lasting all that much longer. I have to admit that this is certainly less annoying than her debut Lip Gloss single, but her bravado is still just as irksome. Chris Brown is singing his heart on the chorus, but he sounds like an idiot singing "Hit the dizzle and act like there's nobody else in herrrrr." The video is a re-hash of the Jacksons' Scream and TLC's No Scrubs videos, and she didn't exactly do them justice. But this is a review of the music, which is more catchy than it is truly enjoyable and fun-- much like Fergie. The way this song jumps into brain is similar to that of maybe Gimme More by Britney Spears-- it's fun at the time, but then you're just sad by the time it's all over. The featured rap for T. Pain is typical T. Pain, and it's certainly a sound we've all heard before if we've turned on the radio. This is supposedly a LIL MAMAsingle, but it just has so much vocal time from the guest spots that I forget is anything to do with her. Ironically enough, I actually enjoy her the most-- how sad it that? I admit that I like the way she introduces the song, but before long, with all the guest spots, it just gets boring and dull. Best heard in a club, possibly a little remixed with less Chris Brown and T. Pain.
