Good thing there's a lifetime warranty, you might need it!

Pros: auto open and close, lifetime warranty
Cons: cannot withstand very strong winds, large and heavy to carry, ugly
The Bottom Line: You can use this umbrella for moderate winds, but I'm not sure it can withstand the pressure of 33mph. While ugly, the umbrella has pluses: auto button the lifetime warranty.

| Mcosenza's Full Review: Shedrain Windpro Auto Open & Close Umbrella |
I live in New York where it can get pretty windy during rainstorms. I have had very bad luck with umbrellas. I usually purchase the cheap ones because the wind will ruin them anyway. This time I chose the ShedRain WindPro Auto Open & Close umbrella because the description says, "The WindPro umbrellas are for walkers who often face windy conditions. WindPro shafts and ribs are made from heavy-duty materials to ensure they will defy wind stresses." While this umbrella is not asthetically pleasing, I figured it would do the job.
I rarely took this umbrella out because it is large and cumbersome. While it has a bag with an over-the-shoulder strap, it is somewhat heavy to carry. I guess the good thing about the size is that you won't forget it if you put it down because it is too large not to see.
About the forth time I took it out, there were heavy winds, although I was only going across the street, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. As I opened it using the auto button, the wind ripped the umbrella out of my hands before I even stepped out of the door. When I picked up the umbrella, the nylon was torn and a spoke was broken such that it was useless. I contacted ShedRain and they agreed to replace it--all I had to pay was the shipping fee.
When I wasn't using this umbrella, I used the ShedRain Urban Hiker Umbrella. This umbrella could withstand moderate winds, but it may also bend. The good thing about the Hiker is that it is small and can fit in a pocketbook or backpack. While the Hiker doesn't have an auto button, it is easy to use. Now, when it gets really windy, I just use a hood.
Currently, both umbrellas cost the same on www.ebags.com ($24.99, no tax). They usually have either a 10% off coupon, free shipping or an ebate rebate on www.ebates.com (currently 12%!). Check out www.frugalrewards.com for current coupons
