Pros: Complicated gameplay, accurate sounds, and tutorials.
Cons: Complicated gameplay.
The Bottom Line: Sheep Raider is the best, fun "educational" game out right now. The complicated gameplay will keep you playing for months on end. I mean who doesn't like to steal things?
skater6446's Full Review: Sheep Raider for PlayStation 1
Intro:
Sheep Raider is the finest, hardest puzzle games out. The appearance of Sheep Raider seems childish, but when you get into the complicated (and sometimes frustrating) gameplay, you'll see what I mean.
By the way, Sheep Raider is the only E-rated action strategy game available. Suitable for any aged Looney Tune fan.
Storyline:
Has anyone ever watched Ralph Wolf try to steal sheep from Sam the sheep dog? It used to be on Cartoon Network, but that was awhile ago. Well it's cool if you haven't, I'll explain...
Your Ralph Wolf and your bent on stealing one sheep from Sam's Sheep. You find Sam, the sheep dog, watching over his sheep in a nearby pasture. You think to yourself. "I can steal one measly sheep," this is where the fun begins! But your wrong, it's much more complex then one little sheep. I mean, who doesn't like to steal stuff?
Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay in Sheep Raider is fairly difficult to figure out, but easy to get the hang of with time. It's in a top perspective in 3D. Which plainly means you usually view the game from the top or diagonally from the side, in 3D.
The only flaw in the gameplay is that, occasionally, the camera angle will change positions, making you walk differently. This may not be a huge problem when your walking on flat ground, but when your on an old rickety old bridge, it'll change your perspective. I've had that happen in a key part of the game. After I stole a sheep, (after a million tries) I walked next to a cliff, the camera changed perspective, and I fell off the cliff. That angered me greatly, but eventually I beat the level.
Ralph Wolf blazes more then 15 Various terrains including volcanoes, deserts, swamps, and castles, creating many hours (possibly days) of replay value. It's easy to find yourself accidentally playing at 3 am.
A great addition to this gameplay is that, before every level (or so), Daffy Duck explains the objectives and hints to the level. It really helps to have Daffy act out all the tips that help you in every level. Also, in one specific level, the stuttering Porky Pigs explains how to use lettuce. These are all very helpful and shouldn't be passed up.
The overall objective of gameplay is to steal sheep from Sam, the Sheep Dog. This may seem very easy in the first few levels, but the farther you get, the harder the difficulty level gets. In example, in the first level, there's one big pasture and all you do is steal one sheep, but in the next few levels, you'll have to avoid land mines, slippery ice, and odd characters.
Graphics: 8/10
I'd say the graphics in Sheep Raider are about 3D Animations. If you've watched any Looney Toons lately, it's like that except 3D.
Framerate
The framerate in Sheep Raider is fairly smooth. It has an occasional lag. I personally like the aspect of the graphics in Sheep Raider.
Texture
The realistic texture is fair. It's more of an animation aspect. It adds to the overall graphics because it's based around cartoons and animation.
Sound:
The sound in Sheep Raider meets the standards of todays. It very suitable for the type of gameplay it's based around. What I mean is, for a cartoon, it has catchy and upbeat tunes. They don't nessicarily get annoying either. A solid 7/10.
Controls:
The controls in Sheep Raider are fairly easy to learn. The basic controls in the game are...
Basics:
X = Action Button (Pick up objects, ect.)
= Jump (To double jump press again while your in the air)
O = Sprint (To sprint hold O down)
Triangle = Nothing (Unless you change all of these controls in options, then they would all be different)
R1 = Sneak around (You need to sneak around when in Sam's Area)
Directional Pad:
Right = Very
Left = Self
UP = Explani-
Down = tory. :0)
Versitility
One item that caught my eye in Sheep Raider, is that it was very versital. When you enter the menu, you find that Sheep Raider is available in English, French, Italian, Dutch, and Spanish. This adds alot of versatility to Sheep Raider, making it accessible to many different races.
Overall Recommendation:
Sheep Raider is one of the most complex, versatile, and cheap game on the planet. Try it out for yourself! Rent it, buy it, or burrow it. (wink wink Just give it a try though. It's worth it.
Thanks for hearing me out! Please leave feedback on how I did in the comments area. Thanks in advance for the rate.
