Shepherding Parents

Pros:Scripturally basedTeaches parents how to teach children to be respectful and obedient
Cons:Not as much real-life application (see supplemental titles)
The Bottom Line: This is a great resource for parents with children of all ages. It really focuses your family dynamic in the right direction.
This book was really eye-opening for me. There were a lot of things in the book I was already doing but Tedd Tripp gave scriptural references as to why we should be disciplining our children and what the Bible says about parenting. I was really motivated and encouraged by this book. It was also wonderful to hear that there are going to be times where you need to refocus because you have drifted away from the immediate discipline.
This book will provide insightful ideas for helping your children to love God and love you even though you have to sometimes correct their behaviors. It will help you to teach your children to be respectful and obedient. It will also help them and you understand the hierarchy of family as God intended.
Using the parenting handbook was also really helpful because it asks a lot of deep questions about how you want to raise your children and how that translates into your parenting style. It's a lot more of the personal application from the theories expressed in the book. One step further is the book Don't Make Me Count to Three (I can't remember the full name of the author but it's easy to find). This book provides the examples of real-life situations where your children will test you and how you can apply Shepherding a Child's Heart to your daily routine.
