Pros: Starwood points, yeah, but...
Cons: Stay away at all costs.
The Bottom Line: Not up to Sheraton standards, or even Geneva Convention standards.

| CurtisEdmonds's Full Review: Sheraton Columbia Hotel |
This is going to be a short review, but I can't help that, because there isn't that much to say. It is not going to be overly consumerly helpful, or tell you about all the wonderful features of the hotel. It is, instead, a warning, a shot across the bow, a message to let you know to stay very very far away, or at least in some other hotel somewhere else.
These are the things that I wanted from the Sheraton Columbia, MD that I didn't get:
* Free wireless access. Didn't even bother bringing the laptop on this trip. A shame, really, but a minor inconvenience.
* A nice clean swimming pool. If you don't swim, this doesn't affect you much, but the pool itself looked like it could use a good scrub. (The lifeguard did, sort of half-heartedly, skim the pool of dead leaves while I was there, and there were a lot of them.) But hey.
* A nice view. I understand you can get nice views of the nearby lake on the other side of the hotel. We weren't on the nice side. We were on the side that had great big huge shipping containers all over everything. I don't care really that much for views in places that are mostly sleep spots, but come on. (If you must stay here -- if you absolutely must -- ask specifically for one of the upper floors of the tower.)
* Drawers. Just two dinky little drawers under the TV (which is good-sized, no worries there). We kept the clothes in the suitcase, you will, too.
* A Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed. That's what Sheraton advertises, that's what they say they offer everywhere, but not here. Here, you got a -- I don't know another way to say this -- a rock-hard slab of a thing. My back is still sore just writing this Epinion.
* Doors that work with room keys. One of the outside doors didn't work at all (which would have been OK except for the large loud knot of people out in the parking lot drinking that we had to walk past). Our room door was balky both going in and coming out; make sure yours closes all the way.
Okay, these are all complaints, these are all negative things, nothing here about the bathrooms (OK, a little dinky but managable) or the meeting rooms (didn't check them out) or the lobby (didn't go near it other than to check in) or anything else consumerly helpful. But there's nothing here to ruin the stay, right?
Well, no. How about, though, someone running a big circular saw right outside our window at ten o'clock in the morning on both Saturday and Sunday, when we were trying to sleep?
Columbia, Maryland is not a garden spot and is not a tourist attraction, and I don't expect a flawless stay or a resort-type atmosphere. What I do expect is not to have some idjit running a god-damned circular saw right outside my window at ten o'clock in the morning. That's the most consumerly-helpful thing I can tell you, and God help you if you ignore it.
