| travel2010's Full Review: Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers |
I stayed at the Sheraton New York Towers hotel for three nights while visiting Manhattan. I chose the hotel as I am a Gold Starwood Preferred Guest and loyal to the chain. I was also taking advantage of redeeming points for two free nights of the three at the hotel. The location of the hotel is great. The hotel is conveniently located to Broadway, Times Square, and Central Park.
When my cab arrived at the hotel, the lobby was large and tastefully decorated. There was a separate check in for preferred guests and the clerk said it would be no problem to stay in the same room for all three nights.
At the elevators there is a guard to check the room key and the elevators are divided by which floor you are on. I was given a room on the 38th floor which is a preferred guest floor. There are 50 floors in the tower.
When I got to my room, it was on the small side but that is expected in NYC. The room was clean so that is all that matters. The view out the window was blocked by a long desk which was the window length so I am not sure if that was put there for safety reasons as it prevented us from getting within a foot of the window and also took up a lot room space.
The room had two double beds, a bench for holding luggage, and a good size television. A coffeepot with coffee and tea were provided. The tea and coffee were not restocked during the stay though.
The bathroom had a modern vanity with a marble top providing plenty of counter space. The shower/tub had an oval curtain rod to provide extra room in the shower. There was plenty of water pressure so I didn't have any issues there. A hair dryer was in the bathroom along with a vanity magnifying mirror. Sheraton also provided shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, mouthwash, a tool kit, a shower cap, and a shoe mitt. The bathroom also had a little sign that if anything was forgotten such as a toothbrush that would be provided at the front desk.
When we returned to the room after our first evening out, I noticed a bottle of wine on the desk. The staff had left a welcome gift and letter that included the bottle of wine, a chocolate statute of liberty replica, and a cork screw. It was a nice gesture and something I hadn't expected.
The television in the room had 22 different stations, and pay per view movie options. Check out from the hotel could also be done from the tv so that made leaving on the last day easy.
We had a few minor problems during our stay which were taken care of immediately. One of the wooden window blinds got stuck and we couldn't get it back down. The clerk immediately sent someone up then called to make sure the issue was taken care of. Then one morning there was a problem with the elevator so the security guard called someone to figure out what the problem was. In both instances, the response was appropriate.
The hotel has a conference center in it. There are also three restaurants inside. The bottom floor has a gym that can be seen from outside of the hotel. Room service is also available. There is not a pool in the hotel but guests can use the pool at the other Sheraton across the street.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone needing a place to stay while visiting New York City. The location is convenient to so much; the staff was professional and friendly; and the rooms are clean and secure.
