| vifoot1's Full Review: Sheraton Suites Orlando Airport |
I booked my reservation through the Sheraton website well in advance, and was very happy to get a suite for $79. I think they had just refurbished the rooms and were offering good deals as a result. I basically was looking for the cheapest Starwood Hotel that had free airport shuttle service. The suite was very nicely appointed, complete with all of the amenities as described on their website. The first room had a sofa, kitchenette, and tv. Walking through to the bedroom, you can separate the two rooms with a solid door if you need the privacy. The bedroom had two double beds, a tv, and a very large, clean bathroom. Both rooms were attractively furnished, with nice carpet, wallpaper and furniture. I felt like I had really gotten a steal at $79 for the room when I walked in. I don't know how much the suites normally go for, but I could see them charging well over $150 for them.
However, I had a suite on the second floor right above the banquet room. The music was so loud my bed vibrated, and when they started up the karoake, I could hear every word and off-note key they were singing. I thought to myself "so this is why I got this room for $79." At midnight I called the front desk to let them know how loud it was and to find out how much longer the reception was expected to last. The lady at the front desk said it should be wrapping up anytime now, and she would let the banquet manager know how loud it was. An hour later, nothing has changed, so I called back, and the same woman told me she was sorry, she wasn't able to find the banquet manager. She said she was the only one on shift and the banquet was supposed to be over an hour ago, and she apologized again. She said she could move me to another room but that I was probably already in bed for the night and not interested in that, and so she offered to compensate me for the stay. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to inquire about their satisfaction guaranteed statement. I got the feeling they get this complaint fairly often from the room I was in, and perhaps they expect to have to compensate a certain percentage of people.
Now fortunately, my loss of sleep was more of an inconvenience than anything else. Once the music died, I was able to sleep well because the beds were comfortable. It was a Friday night and my family and I were going on the Disney Cruise in the morning, so sleep was not critical. All I could think about though, was how angry I would have been, say, if I would have had an important business presentation the next morning. I would have been fuming! Since I was okay with being tired the next day and they handled the situation fairly, I felt satisfied.
