Great Location, Lousy Service

Written: Aug 17 '04
Pros:Location, landscaping, and facilities
Cons:Service, questionable billing practices, no toll free phone number for when problems arise
The Bottom Line: The incredibly poor service, lack of customer support, and questionable billing practices more than offset any positives.

Our problems with Sheraton World started when my wife and I first arrived at the check-in counter. I’d reserved 4 nights, and they only had me down for one night. It took approximately 30 minutes to resolve this, and we were finally checked into our room. Later that evening, we went to the restaurant to have a cocktail prior to retiring to our room. After finishing our cocktail, we waited at least 45 minutes for our server to bring us the bill. When he never showed up, we had to go inside the restaurant to find him, where he was busy shooting the breeze with his other co-workers (he seemed irritated with us for hunting him down inside the restaurant). The next morning, we had the breakfast buffet at the restaurant and had to wait at least 20 minutes for the server to bring us the bill (I would have cut them more slack if the restaurant had been busy on either of these occasions, but it wasn’t). When we tried to check out, the process took 30-45 minutes because when we checked in, the person working the desk forgot to officially check us in. When they did finally print us a checkout statement, it was full of errors – numerous items and services that we never charged. It took me nearly one month and numerous long distance phone calls on my nickel (they don’t have a toll-free number) to finally get the bill resolved. Considering that they’d overcharged me $300 and caused me to spend considerable time straightening their mess out, you’d think that they at least would have apologized for the inconvenience – but not a chance.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are some good things about the hotel. The location is unbeatable for Sea World and Discovery Cove. The landscaping is beautiful, and the facilities generally seem clean and well-maintained. Our room in the tower was clean.

All-in-all, it would be a nice hotel to stay at provided that you never had to deal with anyone working there. But what are the chances of that happening?
