modernmarvel's Full Review: UGG Australia Classic Short Boots for Women
I started wearing Uggs a couple of years ago and bought short boots last fall. I wear my Uggs pretty much everyday because I work in an environment where I can dress casually.
THE PRODUCT
Ugg boots are made from sheepskin. They look like soft suede on the outside. I admit that the look isn't too impressive. However, the somewhat dull, brown outside gives way to an unbelievably soft, furry inside. My Uggs have a brown, rubber bottom. The boots come in European sizing. This might make it difficult for some people to mail order. If you don't know your European size, then you might want to try them on in a real store before making a purchase.
These Classic Short Ugg Boots come up to about mid-shin. There are Ugg boots that are taller and come up closer to the knee so you have to decide the height you want. I use these Ugg short boots to wear under my pants and that works fine as long as the pants are boot cut because the Uggs are still somewhat wide at the top. I see women locally wear them with dresses and skirts although I don't care for that look myself.
My Ugg short boots are camel colored but they come in lots of other colors. I have had these for about five months and another pair of camel colored tall boots for almost two years. I don't treat or wash my Uggs because I like the broken-in look. Generally, rain drops will leave a mark that will fade as the water evaporates. The rain marks don't leave stains. However, I live in an area where it is snowy and the roads are salted. The salt will definitely stain the boots as will other things dropped on them. I find the boots to be very absorbant. This means any liquid dropped on them, from wine to diet coke, is going to leave a mark and will be absorbed before you can wipe it away. It also means that, if you step in a puddle, your feet will get wet through the boot. You can treat the Ugg boots although I haven't tried it so I can't comment.
I wear my Ugg boots without socks. I find that the sheep skin fur on the inside is very warm even in cold New England winters. If I did wear socks, my feet would sweat uncontrollably because the boots are so warm. However, the boots breath very well and my feet are still comfortable if I wear them around inside my house or office. I wouldn't wear them in the summer, although I have seen people do that, because I think they would be too warm and I like to wear sandals in the summer in any case. I will wear them until the weather turns to spring.
The nice thing about going without socks is that I can keep a pair near the door to just slip on when I am walking out. I don't even buy socks anymore due to my 3 pair of Ugg boots and one pair of Ugg clogs. The nice thing about Uggs also is that the fur really stands up to use. I wore another pair of taller Uggs all last winter and the fur lasted - it never got smelly or matted. I am on my second year with those boots and the fur is just matted down now. I could probably wash them but ended up getting a new pair. The fur in my short boots is still going strong after almost daily use in winter conditions for five months.
Uggs have very soft construction and don't give much foot or ankle support. If you are not used to unconstructed shoes, you might find these to be either very comfortable or, possibly uncomfortable if your feet need support.
The one complaint I have about Uggs is that the leather rips easily. I caught one pair on a rough table leg and a triangle piece ripped in the boot.
I paid $90 for my pair on sale. Given that Uggs are so popular now, you can find them in many stores and all over the web. There are also an increasing number of styles and colors. I like this pair though because the neutral look goes with a lot of clothes.
Overall, I really recommend these boots. I wear them all the time and I love the convenience of pulling them on just as I run out the door. Even when the fad fades away, I plan to keep wearing them.
