It’s so tiny!
Yes, I said this to my husband, but he wasn’t offended. This was my first reaction when he came home with his new ShopVac. When he told me he was going to buy a ShopVac, I thought he meant those huge models. He said he wanted this model (model 2010) to use for small jobs in the garage, and to vacuum the van.
The ShopVac 1x1 is a wet/dry vac, but the capacity is just 1 gallon. While that may not seem like much it’s perfect for cleaning up kitchen spills, vacuuming a vehicle, and picking up small amounts of sawdust and other garage project debris.
The Shop Vac 1x1 is sits about 12 inches high and isn’t on rollers. The hose is 4 feet long, and is removable for storage. Other accessories included are:
-- crevice tool
-- gulper nozzle
-- foam sleeve
-- reusable dry filter
The foam sleeve is to be used to pick up wet messes, while the dry filter is to be put on in place of the foam sleeve for dry debris. These are put on under the lid cage using a mounting ring to hold them in place.
There is also an automatic shut off when picking up liquids. This is to ensure the liquid won’t overflow, possibly causing electric shock. Good idea.
The cord is 18 feet long which seems plenty long to me, but my husband had to use an extension cord before it would reach our van.
This ShopVac is surprisingly quiet, and very lightweight. I was able to maneuver it around the seats and back of the van with ease. It's got a little handle under the lid right above the on/off switch.
Among the usual precautions listed, this one caught my eye:
Do not pick up coal ash, soot, cement, plaster or drywall dust without full cloth filter or collection bag in place. These are very fine particles that may pass through the foam and disc filters and affect the performance of the motor, or may be exhausted back into the air.
It also states that fine particle filters are available for vacs with a minimum tank size of 1.3 gallons. Now, why wouldn’t they make these filters to fit the 1 gallon tank? I can’t say my husband won’t pick up these “fine particles”. I’ll bet he does and it will work fine.
Along with the ShopVac is an Accessory Order Form listing dozens of pieces to add to your vacuum collection. Problem is, it’s not very clear on what parts go with which model. Maybe they are all interchangeable. The basic items that will need replacing – the filter and the washable foam sleeve – are supposed to be available at your local Shop Vac dealer. Try Target or Walmart.
All of the accessories won't matter if the ShopVac doesn't work. But this one does. It picks up messes wonderfully. That's the bottom line, right?
