What.... The Store Isn't Just About Conquer and Escape?~*~ Little Tikes Shopping Cart

Written: Aug 09 '00 (Updated Oct 10 '01)
Pros:Durable, Fun, Cheerful Colors, Multi-Purpose
Cons:Younger Children May Climb Into It
The Bottom Line: The cheerfully colored Little Tikes Shopping Cart will endure many hours of pretend play!

Not Just A Toy!
To an adult it may appear as though it is merely a toy cart. To your child the Little Tikes Shopping Cart is yet one more beneficial element to allow their hard but fun-filled day of work to prepare them for the responsibilities of adulthood. Little Tikes, yet again, manufactured an incredibly durable product.

This cheerfully colored shopping cart will endure many hours of pretend play and is much durable enough to accompany you and your child to the real stores! This little shopping cart is ready to hold all the day's groceries. Whether it be the pretend play kind or the supermarket fill.

It features a deep basket (yellow) and storage underneath. Sturdy, solid walls (yellow) keep small items in. And your child can be sure to take a favorite doll or stuffed toy to the store adventure as well! This fabulous cart comes equipped with a fold-down seat. Durable, all-weather construction makes it suitable for indoor or outdoor play. It is easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Or it can withstand being hosed down. Measures 16.25"L x 14.5"D x 23.25"H.

What.... The Store Isn’t Just About Conquer and Escape?
The market place offers a wide range of educational experience. I have always enjoyed taking my children shopping. I point out colors, numbers, shapes, letters, phonetic sounds, and more. I narrate to them about the shopping experience. Yes, I have received some odd stares. Many are on a mission. Conquer and escape! Not this Mom and Preschool Teacher.

My children get to hear what Mom is selecting to purchase, why, and what we will do with it. On certain occasions they get to take in our budget allotment, hear how much the foods are costing, what our bill is tallying too, why I am selecting a certain brand (money wise, taste wise). We utilized mathematics (adding, subtracting, fractions, measuring). Store adventures are truly an unschooling way to educate!

There is compelling research to substantiate the brain activity and the part it contributes to a young person’s future. Children need to be included in conversations. They process what you share with them. The neurons in their brains connect and you are actually allowing for a higher degree of intelligence. Thus, one of the many reasons I choose to narrate during shopping adventures.

Further, it is a time to instill healthy eating choices and nutritional education. I have even taken a food pyramid chart with us on occasion.

Another benefit is that it enables you to spend time with your child. Taking along a shopping cart that is their size, puts the hardware into proportion, and sets the brain for a hand on learning experience.

In turn, my children have always enjoyed market play at home. They use this Little Tikes shopping cart for a vast variety of pretend play. I get to hear them narrate to their dolls and stuffed animals what they are purchasing and why.

Rarely Still & Frequently Changing.
When this cart is parked, it is situated in the home-living section. (I operate an in home licensed daycare – see my review on the family kitchen for a full explanation of this area of our home.) It has withstood children climbing into it, the cat being toured around in it, immense amount of pretend play hours, numerous grocery store encounters, and much more.

The basket area holds a tremendous amount and could double as pretend food storage for your own home-living pretend center.

Yes, I Recommend It!
What a reward it is when children truly enjoy a product as much as this one. If I was clocking the hours spent using this toy, it would be amazing that it still looks new. We purchased ours at Toys-R-Us 5 years ago for $24.99. I highly recommend this durable and versatile toy!
