Shortbread Pure Butter Cookies~A Taste Of Scotland In Each Buttery Bite
Written: Dec 18 '07 (Updated Dec 18 '07)
Pros:Delicious buttery goodness in every bite
Cons:a bit on the high caloric side
The Bottom Line: Great tasting cookie and can be found everywhere, not just Scotland
One of the nicest extras in our hotel room in Edinburgh was the complimentary small gift box we found upon arrival
Our welcome gift contained an assortment of 3 small bottles of different kinds of Scotch and three small packages of Walkers Shortbread cookies, each one a different variety
I was hungry, so hurriedly opened a package of the cookies, hubby decided to sample the scotch
I actually did taste the scotch and decided to go back to the cookies.
Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread Cookies have been a staple in cookie aficionados pantries for over a 100 years, the recipe passed down from generation to generation from the original recipe developed by Joseph Walker, who owned the family bakery in the tiny village of Aberlour, Speyside, located in the Scottish highlands. Their popularity didn't take long to spread throughout Scotland, the United Kingdom and now these cookies are a favorite in homes throughout the world
.especially in my home in Miami!
These delicious buttery cookies are made in small batches daily with only the finest, natural ingredients
with every bite you can really taste that buttery goodness
.there is no after taste of additives or artificial flavorings, which is their claim to fame. The finest butters are used though probably not the best for a low fat diet but the taste is real with just the right amount of sweetness in every crisp bite.
This particular variety of finger cookies is a bit more crumbly to eat then the original shortbread squares with a lighter texture and taste
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them both, as a matter of fact, I brought home about a ½ dozen assorted packages from Scotland, then found the same packages selling in my neighborhood grocery store
I don't think I saved any money schlepping them home but that just seemed to be my pattern of bringing home food from wherever I found myself, that is, when it was easier to travel with food then it is today. I enjoy them with my coffee in the morning, if I have the urge for a sweet, or at night with milk for my Tryptophan fix for a good nights sleep. They dunk very well in an ice cold glass of milk.
Anyway, Walkers Shortbread cookies are a great food for vegetarians and whenever I have made gift baskets for those people who are of that persuasion, I always include a package of these cookies
another one of the good things about these Shortbread cookies is that you can heat them up for the freshest, out of the oven taste, just by putting them in a warm 250 degree oven for a few minutes or even the microwave for a 15 -20 seconds.
There are quite a few varieties too. The Chocolate chip is a favorite of my husbands but I still prefer the original goodness of just the Shortbread flavor of pure butter and sweetness.
A sweet Scottish treat, that can't be beat, is the way I think of Walkers Shortbread Cookies from the Highlands to the Lowlands these cookies are enjoyable in every land.
