Barbarajo's Full Review: Showtime Rotisserie & Bbq Ronco
My first Ronco Product was the Popeil's Automatic Pasta Maker. I will soon write a review on that product, but I mention it here because it was the quality of this brand name that inspired me to purchase others.
While I did recently purchase the Food Dehydrator, I was given the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie and BBQ. My brother-in-law tired of it, complained that he had no room to put it and that clean-up was a hassle.
I really believe that hassle depends on how you look at things. This appliance has proven so valuable and useful to me that I don't find any hassles with clean-up or storage.
The quality and durability of this appliance is fantastic. No short cuts are taken here! Even the BBQ gloves are made of high quality.
To begin with, I have the largest model.
With it came the appliance itself, which comes apart for easy clean-up. Added features include:
~ A three piece, very well made steaming and heating tray. This conveniently sits right on top of the rotisserie. We have made just about every vegetable that you can think of. We use mostly fresh and steam them but canned or frozen can be heated in this as well.
~ 6 Kabob rods. You MUST make Baby Back ribs on here. As Emiril would say, "To die for!" or is it, "Pork Fat Rules?" - both apply. Franks, Sausages, kabobs, and many other items can be cooked on these rods.
~Food Basket. Good for fish, steaks, hamburgers or any "flat" food items. You can use this for hot dogs as well.
~Flavor Injector. Huge needle to inject marinades into roasts, chickens or whatever. I have never used this. Frankly I prefer simply seasoned foods but those that I know who have used it, love it.
~Gloves. Again, they are of extreme high quality. Due to the intensity of the heat generated, I recommend their usage.
~Elastic Food Ties are great for tying chickens.
~Plastic split loading base that is great to rest the meat on when loading onto the rods.
~Rods are thick and easy to pierce food items such as chickens.
~ The Video is explicit and helpful for new users or those that have never seen the infomercial.
My machine comfortably fits two 7 pound chickens.
You do literally, "Set it and forget it." Expect 2 - 2 1/2 hours cooking time for 2 chickens of that size. Oh, I didn't mention that each model has a timer built on the side, for added convenience.
I have an extremely small kitchen but I maximize usage of all of my appliances by efficient design and organization.
This last Easter, I had 30 dinner guests. Naturally I prepared as much ahead of time as possible. I cleared my microwave cart to house my Rotisserie and just "Set it and forgot it," timing it to be ready 1/2 hour before the main course was served. I have old fashioned steam radiators. To make them more useful, I had a custom cover built that acts as an additional work station. Here I placed my Deep Fryer that I used to cook some appetizers while my chickens were roasting to perfection.
I can't say much more about this appliance except that everything that we have made in it has come out superb. I believe that it is a healthy way to cook in that all fats are dripping off the meats. Not to mention the steam tray for your vegetables. It's convenient and easy to use and clean. I use it at least once a week and it too has become an important part of my catering in that I can now offer Rotisserie foods on my menu.
I believe that this is a high quality item that you should purchase. If space is a problem, find room for it elsewhere and bring it out when you are using it. It is worth going the extra mile for.
I guarantee you that if you are unsure and try food made on this, you will be quick to go out and buy it.
