Silky 20' Telescoping Pole Saw (Hayate 420) Review

Written: Sep 28 '08 (Updated Sep 28 '08)
Pros:Sturdy aluminum construction with a tough blade and tooth design that cuts like butter.
Cons:

Strong aluminum pole and big blade may be hefty at full extension for some.

The Bottom Line: Silky Pole Saw is of sturdy aluminum construction and tough steel blade with teeth that cut limbs like butter!  Excellent quality, saves time and effort in trimming.

I shopped around at Home Depot and Lowes where you can get 16' to 20' pole saws for under $100 and wondered why I should pay $200 or more for one from a specialty store, now I know. Found my 20' Silky Hayate 420 (an upgrade from their Hayauchi 21' at $50 less) on Tool King.com and couldn't be happier. I live on an acre with Oak, Poincianna, Cassia, Pines, and a variety of Palm Trees. Using a chain saw at upper levels can be dangerous but with this Silky Pole Saw I get high level extension and this blade CUTS LIMBS LIKE BUTTER, gives a chain saw a run for the money and safe to use, not to mention GREEN, if that makes a difference to you. The upgrade to the 420 gives a thicker blade set in place with bolts instead of wing nuts which on cheaper models I've owned need regular tightening. The manufacturer designed the teeth to work on the downstroke and it is true making cutting with little effort, as the instructions say; let the saw do the work! The oval shaped handle gives a sturdy hold at full extension and the double locking mechanisim at each extension eliminates slippage. Should have invested in this saw years ago which would have saved me a lot of effort and time in trimming. Sturdy aluminum construction in the pole with a comfortable grip and a tough blade with a mean set of teeth, I can see this Silky giving me many years of good service. This is not your lightweight fiberglass pole saw with a light blade that bends easily, at full extension, the sturdy aluminum pole and big steel blade may be cumbersome for some when maneuvering in and out of position for cutting. It comes with a good plastic cover for the blade, use it, you don't want to bump into these teeth by accident!
