| Bounty628's Full Review: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale |
Sierra Nevada is one of the top microbreweries in the United States and has been at the forefront of producing great beer for years. During the Holiday season, some great warmers can be found, whether it is the Paper City Brewery's "Wee Heavy" or Sam Adams' "Winter Lager". However, Sierra Nevada cannot be left out of the mix with their crafting of the Celebration Ale.
Celebration Ale carries with it a pleasantly bitter kick to the beer and the high amounts of hops make the porter a very strong tasting beer.
The flavor of the beer can be defined further than "hoppy"; rather, I would define the beer as being somewhat spicy. To compare the spice of the Celebration Ale to a food would make one think of a warm slice of gingerbread. The somewhat high level of malt in the beer gives the Celebration Ale the heaviness and the sense of filling that it offers.
The carbonation of the beer is very low making the beer somewhat of a heavy drink. The heaviness of the Celebration Ale makes it a fine candidate to have just a couple, although that might prove harder than anticipated.
The alcoholic content of the beer is 6.8%, which for winter ales is basically the median to high-median. While some winter lagers can be found much heavier and more alcoholic, the Celebration Ale compares well to its rivals.
The Celebration Ale can be found seasonally during the Christmas season throughout the United States. I have had the Celebration Ale both on tap and in the bottle, and I can assure you that the beer is just as good of a pour as it is from the bottle.
I would recommend that if to be consumed with a meal, the Celebration Ale should be drank with a heavy meal, like a beef stew, perhaps. With a dessert, as previously mentioned, a nice slice of gingerbread or chocolate cake would go well with the Celebration Ale.
But do not be fooled, the Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale absolutely is good enough to drink alone. Actually, I would recommend just that.
