I have to say that I am not a huge chocolate fan, especially plain chocolate, but give me something like Turtles or any chocolate with mint product and I am a happy girl. My best friend knows this and usually treats me to Turtles about once a month. I dont really need them once a month but who can resist? They have been around for as long as I can remember. Turtles were once my mother's favorite so my dad always bought them for every occasion.
The 7 oz. cardboard box that I received most recently for Christmas is the typical red, white, and gold coloring for this particular candy product. The opening is at the top and it just comes right off. There is no hinge or closure, it just comes off and goes back on if you need it to. Each turtle is individually wrapped inside this 12-pack box. This is good for the box design so that the candy stays fresh.

These signature Turtles consist of pieces of pecans and cashews, mixed with caramel and totally surrounded by a chocolate coating. These Turtles consist of soft chocolate and are not hard to chew thanks to the caramel inside. The chocolate is smooth and goes down well. If you dont like cashews, you can buy the regular Turtles because they only contain pecans and caramel. But I personally feel that the caramel, pecan, cashew, and chocolate combination is perfect with this particular candy formula. And for me, the mix of nuts is the perfect way to focus on other things in this candy besides the chocolate. That way, I can enjoy it more since I don't like a lot of chocolate.
As you can imagine, these chocolate covered candies are obviously not good for you, but if eaten in moderation, they are a good source of calcium (better than most candy anyway). Whats the fun part of these candies? These candies were named because someone thought they resembled a turtle when they were manufactured, so it stuck. I dont quite see it but I guess they probably dont care anymore because the name is already been around for so long.
These Turtles usually run around $3-6, depending on what size you purchase and where you buy them. I have received them in both boxes and bags over the years. For those that want to be more healthy, Turtles also makes a sugar-free variety and are available at grocery stores, drugstores, mass merchandisers, and online.
Overall, I have to say that I have to hold myself back from eating more than one at a time. Usually, thats more than enough to satisfy me, but sometimes I want to just eat another one because they are so good. They are more expensive than other chocolate candies but they are definitely worth it thanks to the yummy taste.
