Debbie26's Full Review: Mary Higgins Clark - Silent Night
Mary Higgins Clark knew what she was doing when she wrote Silent Night. In this small book of about 160 pages she uses a parents natural fears to draw you into the story. She packed this book with fear and suspense and shows you that faith may be all that is needed sometimes. This is a great book anytime of the year, but would make for an excellent Christmas gift as well.
The story is about faith. Brian, a seven year old whose father is hospitalized and very ill, has faith that a St. Christopher medal will make his father better. Therefore, when his mother drops the wallet containing the medal and a woman picks it up, Brian feels he must get the medal back. Then his mother is left to decide if she has enough faith that he will make it back to her.
Before long Brian's mother and brother realize he is gone and a search for him begins. Meanwhile, Brian has followed the girl home only to find himself in a great deal of trouble when the girl's escape convict brother takes Brian hostage. During all of this Brian keeps his faith in the medal that he retrieves from the girl.
The story continues on this roller coaster ride as the reader anxiously waits to find out what will happen and if anyone will ever find Brian. The characters' faith is constantly tested during this unimaginable ordeal.
The book is very exciting and hard to put down. Because of it's size it could easily be read within a day or two. If you are looking for an exciting story about testing faith this one will be excellent for you, but keep in mind that it does play on a mother's real life fears.
