I waited breathlessly for months for the release of SimCity 3000. I nearly pulled my hair out as the date for release kept being pushed back. I loved the game SimCity 2000 so much that I was sure SimCity 3000 was going to be 3 times as good. I was wrong.
SimCity 3000 was nothing more than a graphic upgrade to SimCity 2000. There were a few extra bells and whistles but essentially nothing much was added. I played the game for a short time and quickly grew bored with it and quit. I wasn't even interested in getting the building architect tool (which might have been neat).
The only improvement over SimCity 2000 was the way 3000 let you get and pay back loans. In 2000 if you took out a loan, it was almost a gauranteed failure. In 3000, you almost had to take out a loan or two, and as long as you were prudent, then you managed to pay it back and become successful.
The advisors in SimCity 3000 were ok, but I don't feel they were much better than the newspapers in SimCity 2000. I just think they were a graphic hype to make the game look good rather than a real improvement.
I think Simcity 2000 was a whole lot more innovative as an advance over regular Simcity, than 3000 could ever be over Simcity 2000. That is what disappointed me. For all the time that I waited, I don't think there were that many innovations and improvements to the game I really loved.
