kiersten's Full Review: SimCity 3000 Unlimited for Windows
SimCity 3000 might ruin my life. It's too absorbing. If I had a good city going and then noticed that the room was on fire, I'd probably go up in smoke because I wanted to see what happened for one more year.
Of course, I've been fascinated by every game in the SimCity line, in spite of the fact that I'm not particularly good at it--my cities top out at the hamlet stage, and fester. Even so, I found SimCity 3000 to be a distinct improvement over SimCity 2000. The silly archive-tower (or whatever they were) things are gone, and water and electrical maintenance is simplified. Dealing with garbage adds a good dimension to the game. And now you can watch your Sims go about their Sim business. The simulation engine has been improved; otherwise, it's just small tweaks on the original.
The main drawback, at least on my system, is the intensive need for processor power--things are just too slow on my admittedly aging 200 megahertz MMX. And I've always wished the game had a little more violence, but that's not really a valid criticism.
