Pros: Designed to be more like breast milk
When deciding to go on formula after exclusively breastfeeding, it was a little overwhelming. There are tons of formula to choose from. I want to make the right decision for my baby, but I didn't even know where to begin. I talked with my doctor and she suggested us to try Similac Advance Powder with Early Shield. I have to say I am glad she did because besides all of the health benefits from it--my daughter loves it.
It is the only DHA/ARA formula that has the Early Shield blend--prebiotics, nucleotides, and antioxidants which are nutrients found in breast milk. It is designed to help support your baby's developing immune system. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals to help your baby's brain and eyes develop properly.
These products are available in this formula:
* 0.6 oz. powder singles
* 2 fl. oz. plastic bottles with nipples
* 8 fl. oz. plastic bottles with nipples
* 12.9 oz. powder cans
* 23.2 oz. powder containers
* 32 fl. oz. reclosable ready to feed bottles
We normally buy the 23.2 oz. powder containers. The cheapest we have found them is at Walmart for $20.99. The container will last us about a week and a half. For those who don't know--you essentially use one unpacked scoop per 2 fl. oz. So if you were making a 4 oz bottle you would use 2 unpacked scoops-and so on. One 23.2 container will make 28 bottles that are 6 fl oz. You need to make sure you use the opened container contents within a month for best freshness.The scoop is stored in the lid for easy access. That way you don't have to dig into the formula to get your scoop out. All you do is lift and pull the scoop to remove it from the lid--it is very convenient. We have also bought the ready to feed reclosable bottles. They come in handy in a pinch when you don't really have time to prepare a bottle. They are more pricey-- about $32.99 for a case of 8 of the 32 oz.
There are other kinds of formulas available by Similac in case you had a special need for them.

There is also a whole network family called Strong Moms. It's where moms come together to share stories, laugh, and learn from each other. All you do is register on line at http://www.similac.com to start receiving monthly newsletters and coupons. I have received coupons for as much as $5.00 off of a container of formula. I enjoy reading the newsletters--they are packed with valuable information. When you register you put the age of your child so the newsletter is catered to your specific needs. It lets you know the physical, social, and cognitive skills your little one will be practicing in the next month.
