Pros:stopped gas problems, easy to use, baby drinks it
Cons:not all stores carry it
The Bottom Line: For babies with fussy tummies, this is a product to try before resorting to soy-based formulas.
With all 3 of my kids, I wanted to breastfeed. My oldest daughter just refused to do it at all. She was put on Isomil, and we had problems with spitting up. I mean, she made The Exorcist look tame - even the dog got spit up on. When daughter #2 was born, I breastfed for about 3 weeks and gave up when she was so colicky that I thought I would go insane. She was on Enfamil which seemed to work out fine except she was a little gassy.

Now I have my son and the breastfeeding has been going pretty good. However, he is hungrier than what I can provide for, and it's nice to get a break from feeling like "Mommy-the-moo-cow" all day long. We had samples of Similac from the hospital so I tried those first. The gas problems cropped up immediately, and severe enough that it would awaken him out of a sound sleep. This would only happen after he'd had the bottle of formula in the late afternoon or early evening.
Since I didn't want to use a soy formula because of the spitting-up problems I had experienced, I tried the Similac Lactose-Free. It's worked perfectly! He hasn't had any more gas problems. Note that Similac Lactose-Free contains iron, so if for any reason your pediatrician has recommended a non-iron fortified formula, Similac Lactose-Free isn't an option.
We get the powder because it's cheaper (about $11 for the container) than the concentrate or the ready to feed, and because you have to use either of those up within 48 hours. Since I am still mostly breastfeeding, I would end up throwing out a good portion of unused formula.
