I bought this mattress about a year ago. Under pressure from acquaintances of all types, I had finally decided to upgrade from my worn out futon on the floor sleeping arrangement. Considering the amount of money I would be spending on the purchase, you can believe I did as much research as possible. Checked this site, read Consumer Reports, talked to different sales people in different stores, and read anything I could find on the internet.
Well, with the research behind me, it was time to hit the streets, and I was confident in my consumer abilities. I shopped various stores, sampled the merchandise, wrote down names, spring counts, recommendations, prices, delivery info, etc. After all the running around, and related research I had begun to hone in on a specific mattress, at a specific store; The Bedroom Superstore. They had a good price, offered free delivery, and I could find no reason why the mattress would not suit my needs.
Settled on a Simmons World Class Beauty Rest, Warwick Pillow Top. Waiting for delivery, the anticipation built. I'd finally be sleeping off the ground in comfort that should be second to none, or so I was lead to believe.
Delivery was on-time, and the Futon went to the closet. Removed the plastic wrapping and bam, "what's that smell!?" Contacted both Simmons and The Bedroom Superstore; nearly in concert they assured me it was normal, and should subside over time. True to promise, it did. Things seemed honky dory, but as time went on, more questions began to come up. "What in the world?" "Why does my back hurt?" "Is this right?" "Maybe I just need to get used to the new mattress, redevelop my sleeping style." "It can't be the mattress, it's a good mattress, must be me."
So I lived with it, bought a mattress cover in case the mattress ever had to be returned and slept on. I figured I needed to get used to either sleeping on my side or back, and get away from sleeping on my stomach. I more or less convinced myself of that situation, because as far as I knew the Simmons was top notch. Comfort out of this world. Right? Marketing gurus unite!
Well several months went by, I tried all types of sleeping styles, nothing changed, so I finally decided to contact Simmons. I sent an email about my situation, and was told to call the customer service line during business hours to discuss the situation. I thought "good, I'm not out in the cold on this one." Finally made some time to do so, and their response was, "sorry, we only warranty defects, not comfort." I tried six ways to Sunday to get an answer other than too bad...with no luck. They recommended I call the retailer.
Contacted the retailer, told them the same story. They also said, "sorry, we don't offer any return options." "That's how we can keep our prices so low." "In fact, you should consider yourself lucky you bought through us, because at our prices, you can pretty much buy two mattresses for the price of one to replace the uncomfortable one you have." In their behest, I did know they did not have an exchange program, but I was also lead to believe that mattress would be comfortable, period. Marketing and sales staff-2, Derek-0.
At this point it would appear I'm somewhat hosed. Simmons will take no responsibility for marketing and selling a product that does not meet their purported claims, and the retailer following suit (The Bedroom Superstore) refuses to accept any responsibility. Even though The Superstore had told me they rarely hear any complaints about beds, they are not willing to make an exception in what would appear to be a one in a million situation. I'm waking up day in and day out with a soar back, and usually wind up walking around for the first several hours of any day cracking my back and waiting for the tightness to go away.
As an aside, where I thought it was just me, others sleeping in the bed have also complained of waking up soar. Final score: Marketing and Sales Staff-3, Derek-0
So in conclusion, I am not at all satisfied with my Simmons purchase, am very disappointed in their customer service, can offer no accolades for the retailer, and will need to fight pretty hard to make sure my $700 didn't go to waste
On the bright side, my futon is still in the closet, and let me tell you, I never awoke with a soar back from that hand me down.
