| mountainhigh's Full Review: Simmons Beautyrest Mattress |
Two weeks ago, my son who is 20, joined the Air Force and I began to clean out his room. As I was cleaning, memories flooded my mind of his child hood and I remembered when we sold his Captain's bed with the drawers underneath and bought him his twin-size Simmon's Beautyrest Mattress at the age of 10.
Looking at the mattress and boxsprings 10 years later, I cannot believe that it still has a 10 year warranty left and the bed looks and feels absolutely horrible!
The material has frayed; there is sagging (body impressions) on the mattress; and you can see lumps. I sat on it and it was not comfortable. I then laid on it and my whole back felt miserable.
Not only did I feel a caved-in area, but I felt several lumps and a spring. My son weighed only 120 lbs., so it wasn't caved-in due to heavy body weight. I flipped the mattress over and tried my experiment on that side. It wasn't any better.
Simmon's Beautyrest Mattress was suppose to be a top quality long lasting mattress when we bought it and paid extra money to have that. You would think with Simmons offering a 20 year warranty on it, that it would last at least 20 years. We flipped the mattress on a regular basis for years after we bought it.
Simmons claimed that their patented pocketed coil innerspring construction with each coil individually pocketed would create squeakless movement; better body contouring; and less movement since each coil would react independently.
Well, I can say I never heard a squeak coming from the mattress, so I'll give them credit for that one.
We have moved since we bought the mattress set and the store in which we bought it out went out of business anyway. I have tried calling several stores where we currently live to get help with my remaining warranty, but have not heard a response yet.
Having had previous experience with other mattress warranties, I am sure that this will be a fruitless task as the representative will always measure with a ruler and claim the mattress is living up to its expectations. If you insist enough you can pay some big bucks and trade up.
Since my son has now left home, I see no point in persuing this nor spending any more money on their "prorated" warranty, and thought instead, I would warn other potential consumers that sooner rather than later, the Simmons Beautyrest Mattress will fail on you.
It will be interesting to see what my son has to say about his bed when I see him again.
