| chriscalabro's Full Review: Simmons Beautyrest Mattress |
Working on the basic premise that the best support in a coil spring bed comes from the quality and count of the coils, it would seem logical that the Simmons beautyrest line of mattresses are a poor long term investment. The bed is marketed as a bed which does not transfer motion. This is done with the use of pocketed independent coil springs. Unlike other coil spring designs these coils are independently held. The upside to this design is that you can compress a spring without effecting its neighboring spring. Thus the lack of motion transfer. Unfortunately the light gauge wire used in the spring coupled with this independent design make this a terrible choice for mattress buyers who require support for back problems etc. Simmons has one of the industries highest return rates for its mattresses as a result of buyer dissatisfaction primarily with this bed system. If you don't have back problems when you buy this bed you will soon after sleeping in it. It is a well marketed design that sells due primarily to a strong marketing campaign and is returned due to a weak design. If you need a non motion type of bed consider looking at latex style mattresses. They offer the non motion benefit with the added support one needs.
