You think you know it all about sleeping on a mattress? Well if you haven't tried sleeping on one of the new, great "memory foam" mattresses, you may well be in for a completely life-changing experience.
For sixty years I have slept on a number of mattresses, and I thought I knew what it was like to sleep on any kind of mattress. But there is another kind of mattress out there which is a completely different experience, a sort of "Sleeping Experience 2.0". It is ten times more comfortable than any other mattress I've slept on, and I almost always fall asleep on it at the drop of a hat.
I discovered it with my partner by accident. We got a room in a Best Western motel in Amarillo, Texas, and after we got ready for bed, we lay down on the mattress expecting a normal mattress. But this mattress just sort of hugged us all warm and comfortably, so much so that my partner and I just turned and looked at each other with wide eyes. "What is it with this mattress???" we said simultaneously. We jumped out of bed, pulled back the covers, and saw the label: "Simmons Beautyrest World Class Mattress with Memory Foam." We knew from that moment on that somewhere, some how, we had to have one. Needless to say, we had a great night on the mattress.
A few months later we found one. We had a little bit of sticker shock when we first saw the price: about $1200.00. But we got it on sale for $1,000.00. I reasoned that if I was going to spend a third of my life on a bed, why not spend it on the best mattress I'd ever slept on?
The mattress has several good things going for it.
For support, you are encased in what Simmons calls 360-degree "Density Pocketed Coils". This really does feel like you are enclosed in comfort and support.
As for comfort, you get three inches of the memory foam on top of the coils and you can get your pick of firm, plush, or pillow-top comfort levels.
I suppose I bought this mattress for two reasons. First, it feels outstanding, and second, Simmons is a well-known and reliable manufacturer. Most of the reviews on this mattress that I have seen, including those in Consumer Reports, are very favorable.
My suggestion is that if you are looking for a better night's sleep, go to a mattress store that sells these, kick off your shoes, and lie down on it. I think you'll definitely notice the difference. Everyone has different likes and dislikes, of course, but try this one. I think you'll like it.
As for the warranty, the mattress is warrantied for 10 years against manufacturer's defects, so if you have a problem in ten years, you can take it back. But I bet you won't need to do that. It's great.
