| zelo's Full Review: Damian Sharp - Simple Numerology: A Simple Wisdom ... |
Inside this small book of "Simple Numerology" is a well thought out wealth of informaton that both the neophyte and the experienced user can use to understand simple numerology. In just 124 compact pages, the author does an excellent job of focusing on one subject (Western or Pythagorean numerology) and keeps himself from straying away from Chaldean numerology which is rarely used today.
Chapters:
Introduction: The introduction tells briefly about the roots of numerology, from Hindu teachings in India to Egypt, Chaldea (where Chaldean numerology comes from), and Phoenicia. It even mentions the Bible and Kaballah as places where numerology can be found.
It is clearly stated this book is an INTRODUCTION to western numerology and requests further reading be in order to completely understand the complexities of numerology.
The book spends a couple pages talking about Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher and mathematician (from which we get the Pythagorean or western numerology and the Pythagorean therom [A² + B² = C²]). This is about the only place in the whole book that gets a little wordy, and again it is but two pages.
How to Find Your Numbers : This section explains how to find both your name number (your outer personality) and your birthpath number (your hidden talents and those you have yet to explore). A chart is setup so it is very easy for one to do this. Again, some detail goes into explaining about the name number and birthpath number but just enough to whet the pallet for more.
The Numbers and Their Meanings: This is the heart of the book and goes through the different numbers giving information on each number 1-9 11 22 33. Approximately two pages each are given to explaining the name number and the birthpath number though before explaining anything, the author gives a couple word synopsis of what each number means:
1. Will: Individuality
2. Peace: Cooperation
3. Creativity: Self-Expression
4. Work: Discipline
5. Freedom: Change
6. Service: Responsibility
7. Wisdom: Detachment
8. Power: Authority
9. Compassion: Altruism
Master Numbers
11. Revelation
22. Actualizaton
33. Universal Service
Each of the nine numbers takes approximately four pages (2 each for name number and birth path number and the master numbers in all take another two pages.
More Numerology : This part of the book gets into your Persona Number (the consonants in your name), your Soul Number (the vowels of your name), and your Year Number. Each is nicely separated from each other and each spends about 1/3 of a page for each number (1-9).
The last few pages deal with, in their own sections The Pinnacles, The Challenge Numbers, and Compatibility in Relationships. Not much time is spent in these areas as this gets a little ahead of ourselves for "simple" numerology but the book does mention them and gives a formula on how to find them.
Lastly the author gives a page of Further Reading and a page about himself.
All in all, the book is laid out very nicely with enough information for the layperson to start understanding numerology. It is a reference I use extensively when needing basics of numerology and then go to the more advanced books only when necessary.
