Hi, Brett, ladycynic asked me to come over and give this a read. I really like your writing style, and the review was very entertaining. However, although I see that you've updated this, there isn't enough information about this particular book. I like the information you included about the online strip. That gives a great background to introducing the book. However, in order to make this a book review, and a review of this specific book, you need to include lots of details about the various strips included. You do a very good job of giving a general overview of the strip, now take it up a notch. Give some examples of strips you found exceptionally amusing or interesting. Give an idea as to whether there is an ongoing storyline with any of the characters. Someone, can't remember who, advised you to read tipu's review of a Calvin and Hobbes book. I couldn't agree more. Comic reviews aren't always easy to write, you must be a very good writer in order to adequately describe to your readers a medium which is primarily visual. However, judging from the reviews of yours which I have already read, I am certain that you're easily able to do so.
As always, if you update, have any questions or would like another reread, please send me an email. I hope to hear from you soon.
REgards,
Cindy

Dragons, and 'burras, and beers--oh my! Very compelling titles, though.
Thank you for having my back on Sinfest. I sure appreciate it.

Well, I actually have this book and your review certainly covers it as far as I can tell. However, I'm not anywhere close to being an expert in this category so I'm not trying to leave advice to the raters, or anything remotely close to that. Just thought I'd give you my two cents here is all. (smile)
One other thing though, I know that you've seen my page and my "Favorite Websites" links...did you ever consider the opposite of what you've described at the start of your review? (smile)
You should check them out sometime...

You told us lots about the series and a little about the individual books, but you haven't fully reviewed either of the books.
For an example of what I mean, check out member tipu's reviews of the Calvin and Hobbes books. He does a great job of explaining something that is unique about each of them and why he liked each of them.
Sorry.

Re: I realize that the comics (Reply to this comment)

Wow, quasar. Frankly, I'm not accustomed to SH's from Advisors/Top Reviewers, and I'm giving your comments a lot of thought. I do appreciate your explanation.
You said, "I have no idea which strips are included, how they're presented, if they're annotated in any way, or really anything else specific to the book."
I thought I answered that when I said, "Sinfest HAS been published in two books, Sinfest (Museworks, November 2002, the object of this review), and Life Is My Bitch (also Museworks, November 2003). ... If you would like to support Ishida or acquire his work for yourself or your web-challenged friends or relatives, I invite you to consider Sinfest the book, which covers the comic from inception through the book's production."
I updated my review to specify that the strips come in chronological order.
Sinfest takes a lot of risks, and I'm certain there are folks that wouldn't enjoy it as much as I do. Was there anything else about my review that you found Somewhat Helpful?
Thank you again for your feedback,
Brett

you discuss are in the book, but you have no book-specific information in this review at all. I have no idea which strips are included, how they're presented, if they're annotated in any way, or really anything else specific to the book. This would be a VH review of the online comic but it's supposed to be a review of the book.

I will be checking this out. The disappearance of the unholy trinity (Larson/ Watterson/ Breathed) was a sad loss for me as well, especially since Gerry Trudeau hadn't been funny in years by that point (he's actually recovered some). The best daily comic i've run into is Unshelved, whose premise - a comic strip set in a public library - is even unlikelier than one set around God, the devil, a neighborhood hottie, and a guy named Slick. Boondocks is also worth a look, though.
cheers,
- Brian
