Pros: reusable, holds six bottles at a time, inexpensive
Cons: poorly made, I usually buy cases of wine at a time
We go through a fair amount of wine in this house each month. Even when we don't have wine-drinkers over, we still go through half a dozen bottles easily each month as we cook dinner. We don't know much about wine and therefore aren't picky, so the Trader Joe's "Three Buck Chuck" wines work well for us. The closest Trader Joe's store is at least an hour away from here, so when we (or family members) visit the store, many cases of wine are purchased and then split up among those who have placed their orders. Many times, we get our Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon delivered to us by my parents in Trader Joe's Reusable Six Bottle Wine Tote Bags.
About These Bags
As the name implies, these totes are reusable, hold six 750mL bottles of wine, and are sold in Trader Joe's wine shops. I myself have never purchased one, but I did receive a couple of them with the tags denoting a $4 price tag still attached. They were, of course, also filled with six bottles of wine! (not included with the $4 price and given to us as a gift from my parents)
To be honest, these bags aren't all that impressive up close. The fabric is thin and feels like a doubled-up fabric softener sheet for the dryer. The compartments are attached to the outside edges of the bag with only one seam. The few that I have here have only been used once or twice, and they still look good... but I can't imagine that they would hold up after week-in and week-out trips to the shop if I lived anywhere near one.
When I hit up a Trader Joe's wine shop (or place an order with a family member), I usually ask for one case of white and one case of red. You can buy them in cardboard box cases, so I'm not really sure why my mother insists on giving them to us in Reusable Six Bottle Wine Tote Bags. The only time I actually use them (when I'm not on the receiving end and bringing Three Buck Chuck home) is when I have to deliver 4-6 bottles of wine to someone. They aren't practical for picnics or going out to a BYOB restaurant unless you are travelling with 15 wine drinkers.
I like the idea of having reusable totes to use instead of plastic bags or cardboard boxes, but when you are buying 5-10 cases of wine per trip to the Trader Joe's wine shop, these totes simply aren't practical. Even if I did live around the corner from a store and was able to use them weekly, I highly doubt that they would last for more than a month or two because they seem to be very cheaply made. Nice idea by Trader Joe's, but I don't recommend the Reusable Six Bottle Wine Tote Bag.
