I'm a fan of Trader Joe's. It's one of the best things going here in California. It is a different kind of grocery store. Trader Joe's doesn't use coupons or specials, because they really do have lower prices than other stores.

Anyway, that being said...Trader Joe's are big environmental advocates. They have been encouraging the use of and selling reusable bags of many types for some years. The bags usually sell for about $2-$4, another big bargain. I have at least five of their reusuable grocery bag totes that I've collected since I shop there on a regular basis.
There's even a sign on their front door that says in large letters: "Don't forget your bags! They're in the car." That is exactly what happens with me and a good reminder to go back and get my bags. That way you're doing your part and helping the trees and environment by not using a brown bag.
If I'm walking around the store for just a few items, I will often just fill up my tote and when done, go to the checkstand, and unload the tote bag. After I'm done with my items being rung up and paying the bill, the items are simply put back into my tote!
All of the various Trader Joe's tote bags are very well made. There are a couple that are simple cloth bags and others that are better for cold items. Those have a plastic coated exterior. They are easily carried in your hand or over your shoulder. Some of the bags have a squared off bottom, making it easy for carrying larger items such as milk containers, but other totes do not have this feature. The stitching on the handles is strong too. I've been carrying lots of heavy foods, the tote bag is literally stuffed with heavy grocery items and the bag has withstood this test time and again.
There is a nice compact Trader Joe's tote, that is the "six bottles of wine" tote bag. This is a smaller version of the larger totes and is a deep red, or burgandy color. This bag is made in Viet Nam. The stitching has been reinforced at the major stress points to last a long time. I like it because of it's smaller size. When you don't have much to carry, it comes in really handy. It's about half the size of an average, larger sized tote. Of course, if carrying bottles of wine, it's perfect because of it's squared-off bottom. And yes, it does hold six bottles of Two Buck Chuck very nicely.
Some of the designs of the other bags that Trader Joe's offers are quite colorful. There is one that has been around for awhile which is a swirling red colorful design. Another features an old time sailing vessel with lots of blues. The cloth bag is very plain, just a beige color with the words "Trader Joe's" imprinted on it. My current favorite tote bag is a pretty tropical-looking bag with palm trees on it.
I use Trader Joe's Reusable Tote Bags for other things too. I have used them to carry things to work, for example. I see people at my gym carrying Trader Joe's bags with their clean-up shampoos, conditioners and so on. I've seen students on the bus carrying books in them. There are just a multiude of uses for these well-made, attractive tote bags.
There is one tote bag that's just 99 cents and it's a white bag with a large red spoon on the right side of the bag and a large red fork on the left. In the middle are the words "Trader Joe's". This is also called the "used to be a plastic bottle bag," obviously meaning that it is made of recycled materials
There is also a heavy red cloth canvas bag with the Trader Joe's name in the middle. It is 100% cotton and made in the USA. This bag will shrink slightly when washed. Machine washable. I have found all of the Trader Joe's tote bags to be soft, light and durable.
Another bag features an old fashioned clipper ship, an old-fashioned biplane, a whale on the other side of the fork and spoon. This bag is 100% propylene and is made in Bangladesh. There is a large salt and pepper shaker, some bananas, a strawberry, a chicken and an old fashioned car is on the other side of this colorful, mostly blue and green bag.
A very large insulated bag featuring a drawing of the first Trader Joe's is one their most expensive bag. This bag will hold 8 gallons and is the most expensive bag Trader Joe's offers at $6.00. It is three layers thick and is made of polyethylene foam. The first Trader Joe's was located in Pasadena, California. The drawing shows the store with a 1967 date on it and a street name of Arroyo Parkway. You can add ice to this nifty bag.
