I'm confused about the previous 1-star rating!
Early spring (especially with all the rain we've had so far) is one of the worst times for biting insects out here. I bought the Skeetervac because it's self powered and the price was right. I called some distributors for reference -- one of which was testing many "mosquito trapping" units side-by-side. Performance of the Skeetervac (according to Northline Express who sells only Mosquito Magnets and the Skeetervac) was equivalent to that of the Mosquito Magnet Liberty. They claimed that the Skeetervac was also solid quality unit, compared to other similarly priced or cheaper units -- and it works, which is why they sell it. They were kind enough to warn me not to expect the Skeetervac to perform like the Mosquito Magnet PRO - which is over a thousand $$ and is more of a "commercial" quality/performing unit.
So, for me, the fact the Skeetervac was less money but self-powered, tipped my decision in favor of this unit.
It arrived in the mail, I've had it for less than 24 hours. I was able to set it up in less than 15 minutes (all tools provided -except for the propane tank), and set it out according to the directions at the end of my property. It was a bit cool outside (about 60 degrees F or so) and immediately it started to drizzle -- and within an hour it was pouring!! I walked my dog that evening and discovered a couple of mosquitoes and a few dozen black flies/midges in the netting - despite the rain and cool temps. It rained throughout the evening and into the morning -- so off I was, again to walk the dog. Still raining (heavily, now), I decided to check the Skeetervac again. More black flies/midges and more mosquitoes in the netting! There were many, many mosquitoes swarming and landing about the trap. In fact, however, I actually saw one get sucked up into the trap through the holes just under the cap. (This is why I'm somewhat confused as to the previous 1-star rating). Contrary to that reviewers claims, my unit works great for me!! It is a solid unit, it remains working in the rain, it is self-powered, reasonably priced (for me), and easy to set up.
I know I've only had this unit for less than a day, but I'm clearly already happy with it. Considering the less-than optimal weather that we've been having up here, it still performed well.
