Pros: Does work if you run system 24/7 from mid Spring to Fall
Cons: Expensive to operate whole unit must be replaced if broken, no parts per Blue Rhino
The Bottom Line: $400 per year annual cost to rid the backyard of mosquitoes? No, Can buy quite a lot of yard spray at that price or build a Screen Porch

Have had my unit now since they first came out in Summer 2003. Got the unit to replace a Mosquito Magnet Freedom model which failed to work after 1 year of use also. Paid $310 for my unit at Sam's club (with tax) unit worked for two summer's then konked out. Called customer service last summer(2005) & told them unit failed to ignite, they had me go through some tests like checking an "inline filter" & when it wasn't that they said I must replace the whole brain of the unit because there are no user servicable parts.
So I sent off for the unit & got it in about 21 days, it costs $70.00 plus they sold me a new line filter $10. Now here it is Summer of 2006 and unit won't start again. Same problem as last year !! They are saying I must replace entire unit to get Ignitor to work as they say there are no user fixable parts!!!
Look on Internet. Some guy has figured out that this is a "racket" going on for both Mosquito Magnet & Skeeter Vac as both the innards of this model look just like the innards of the Mosquito Magnet Freedom models ( I did notice that !) Allegedly there is some way to fix these models yourself if you are mechanically inclined. Actually I saw the part on Ebay for $29.95 it is a grill ignitor but it will only work on the older model MM products. Still waiting to hear from those people as to whether anyone has tried to make it work on the SkeeterVac 1000.
Will try to do this as I kept the old unit & didn't throw it away.
If I include the propane costs $250 per summer /fall season the lures $45. Then buying a new unit every 12 months is too much $$$ for something that should last 3 years. With the expenses listed here its like buying a new unit each year of use . Has to be a better more cost efficient way to get rid of mosquitoes instead of burning propane.
Won't buy another one of these units, too much to keep in operation if I can't fix it myself this time this one is history!
[Update: Part on Ebay for sale won't work on this Skeeter Vac SV-1000, still trying to find out what parts must be replaced to make this thing work again, will have one of my Engineering friends dissect it as there appears to be some type of soldered battery on this unit.Don't advocate the average person working on this unit; it is propane operated and mistakes here can lead to big problems down the road. ]
