I bought the SV-2000 at Sam's Club after reading the reviews here. I fired it up and gave it about a week to operate. I checked the trap and there was 1 mosquito and about 30 tiny little bugs. There were various species of bugs stuck to the paper but no additional mosquitoes.
I gave it a second week and there were zero mosquitoes caught. It was really beginning to irritate me because my friends and I were getting munched in my backyard. You could literally be standing next to the Skeeter Vac and you'd be getting attacked while the mosquitoes totally avoided the machine.
After the second week I began to switch baits and move the unit around to different spots. I also tried changing the 5 different terrain types to vary the bait output. It didn't matter what I tried, the product was worthless.
After 4 straight weeks here in Northern California it caught exactly 1 mosquito. You'd think it would catch more than that by pure chance of a mosquito flying by and getting sucked in. I think the machine was actually repelling mosquitoes rather than attracting them. And we don't have the Tiger Mosquito which Blue Rhino claims the bait doesn't work on. In the meantime, any human in our backyard would get munched. I threw a party that started outside and eventually moved inside because everyone was getting bitten with the Skeeter Vac in plain sight 10 feet away.
This product simply does not work on mosquitoes. I think I must have killed about 1,000 innocent bugs for that 1 mosquito. I was very fortunate that the store (Sam's Club) gave me my $300 back.
