Pros: Powerful motor, solid construction and American Made.
Cons: Weight takes a short time for adjustment.
I bought this saw used from a friend. I needed a 10 inch saw to rip 4 inch by 12 inch by 20 foot rough oak timbers. This saw has performed masterfully. It is American made, professional grade and has a strong 15 amp, 115 volt motor. The saw seemed a little heavy a first but, getting accustomed to the extra weight took very little time. The noise level is about that of a 7-8 inch skilsaw. I don't think Skil makes this saw any longer as I searched for a new one before buying this used saw. I compared it to the 10 inch Milwaukee and Makiita. The Skilsaw was superier in performance and ease of operation. In addition, the new Milwaukee and Makita were expensive as were most of the used ones I found. Using this 10 inch circular saw spares a lot of back breaking labor as opposed to handling and ripping those heavy oak timbers on a table saw. I plan to continue my search for a new 10 inch circular saw, however, I will not purchase another that is not made in the USA. Therefore, this may be my 10 inch saw of choice forever. I do recommend this saw for cutting or ripping any lumber that is 3 1/2 inches or thicker. It is certainly much more efficient and less work than using a 7 1/4 inch saw for these purposes. If one can find a Model 5790 HD 10 inch Skilsaw that is American made it is certainly worth the investment.
