Pros:Design, Power, Versatility
Cons:Only able to cut up to 2-3/8" deep.
The Bottom Line: Any Handyman, Builder, or Craftsman needs this saw if you don't already have it.
One of the most used saws in building a house in my opinion, would be the Circular (or skil) saw. As long as it is wood and smaller than 5" thick you can cut it with this saw. Even though this saw is normally used durring framing, I've used one in many other places. There are many different brands of circular saws and the best one I have found so far is the Skil 7-1/4" Mag. Worm Drive Circular Saw.

This saw is so well known that on the job someone will ask you for a skil saw, instead of a circular saw, even if it's not that brand. I like the Skil Saw brand because of it's many features.
Power- This corded tool is driven with a powerful 15 Amp motor. With this special "Worm Drive" saw, the blade is not driven directly from the motor. When the electrical motor turns it drives a shaft (or worm) into a gear. Then the blade is driven from there. This kind of design gives the blade more driving power and takes stress off of the motor which extends it's life.
Build- The housing of this saw is built with magnesium. This makes the saw very durable and two pounds lighter than the other model (HD77M). This saw also has a strong aluminum foot that can be adjusted to change the depth of a cut. After two years of use I haven't noticed any sort of damage or even scratches on this strong saw.
The saw also includes a saw hook for hanging the saw on rafters. Finally no more dropping the saw off the roof!
Safety Guard- This saw is built with a safety guard that wraps around the blade when it's not cutting product. This dramatically improves the safety of the saw and keeps you from accidentally cutting things that you don't want cut, such as the cord or the bench your using.
Handle- The handle for this saw is sleek and comfortable to use. The handle includes a trigger button to control the saw. This saw is easily controlled with one hand or if you want there is a second handle on the top of the motor. The heavy gauge power cord comes out of the handle keeping it out of the way of your cutting path, if the cord is accidentally cut it can easily be exchanged for a new one. A new power cord can be purchased at most local hardware stores.
Blade- The blade that fits in this saw measures 7-1/4". Even though the saw comes with a blade there are many types you can buy to accommodate with what kind of wood you may be cutting. The blade is easily changed with a wrench that is provided with purchase of the saw. Along with a push button spindle that locks the blade, and the wrench, the blade can easily be changed out to a new one.
