| bradshawcl's Full Review: Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Insect Repellent Moist... |
Last summer, I was looking through an Avon book and noticed Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Insect Repellent Moisturizing Lotion with an SPF 30 sunscreen. I bought 2 blue bottles of the cool n fabulous disappearing color variety for $9.99. The cool n fabulous variety comes out of the 4 fluid oz tube blue, so you will be sure not to miss any spots. Eventually, the color fades.
Here is what Avon has to say about it:
Repellency- IR3535 provides effective and dependable repellency against mosquitoes, deer ticks, black flies, sand flies, gnats, no-seeums, and biting midges.
SPF 30 very water resistant protection from UV rays. Retains its degree of protection for at least 80 minutes in the water. PABA free, and sweat resistant.
Moisturization- non greasy formula helps replenish moisture and leaves skin soft and smooth.
Suitable for the entire family- disappearing color has a fresh summer scent developed especially for the entire family. Mild gentle formula does not need to be washed off when returning from outdoors. Hypoallergenic and pediatrician tested.

**Experience**
Well, summers here in Tennessee, we have two things, bugs and sun. Let me tell you, in my neck of the woods, mosquitoes are out 24/7. I noticed the other day it was 2 in the afternoon and I was killing them left and right. Also, that summer sun will put sunburn on me in 20 minutes if Im not careful.
Now, the two people using this sunscreen are my 2 children, ages 3 and 18 months. My oldest is blonde and very (very, very) fair; my youngest is a brunette with a bit of a darker skin tone. We put this stuff on about 20 minutes before we go outside. This is the second summer my oldest child has used this product. As for my youngest, she did not see much outside action last year, so this is her first year using this sunscreen.
One thing I have learned about the cool n fabulous sunscreen is that a little goes a long way. At first, I would get a quarter sized amount and start slapping it on, but I never could get it all rubbed in using that much. I have figured out about a dime size amount will get you good coverage.
As for the scent, it is alright, it does not smell as good as Hawaiian Tropic, but it is a bearable smell. The liquid is not greasy, and it does not have a bad feeling to it after putting it on.
Also, I need to mention that this product has an expiration date on it. Mine says 10/2005, and I bought it in May of 2004.
Something to beware of with the cool n fabulous sunscreen is that it will stain clothes. I got some on my cotton white t-shirt, and it never did come out. Just be aware that it will stain. My way of avoiding stains is that we all have our swimsuits on when we put on the product. I'm not as worried about staining my swimsuit as I am other things.
Now, as for the effectiveness of this product, I would give it 5 stars! It works great. My oldest child is very prone to get a sunburn, she also has to wear a hat because her scalp may get burned, but she has yet to have one this summer while using this product. As for mosquito bites, she has none while using this. I am so very pleased with the effectiveness.
All in all, I would recommend Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard, but just not the cool n fabulous line. I tend to be sort of messy, and I have lost a shirt due to the staining element of this product. Other than that, I give it 5 stars.
