Pros:good sound, durable, cups help keep exterior noise out
Cons:a little costly, may take some time to determine which cup fits best
The Bottom Line: As a constant headphone listener, I want ear buds that have a good sound quality in varied activites. These Skull Candy FMJs provide that.
Let me start off by disclosing that I am not what you would call an audiophile. I like music and listen to on my PC, on a portable satellite radio, and while running with an MP3 player. For me, the best earbud headphones are the ones that are durable and provide good sound quality. After experimenting with less expensive headphones I received the Skull Candy FMJ earbuds and have been very pleased.

The audio quality is great, and they have a clear sound at low to medium levels. When turned up to the higher volume they do tend to distort the sound. At normal operating volumes they sound great, as long as you have them inserted directly into your ear. If you don't, and have them even slightly off-center, they will seem quiet, giving a sound that seems far away. The positioning of the bud into my ear took some time to perfect but once I learned the best practice for putting it in I have had no issues. The cups on the buds do a very good job of blocking out external noise, including wind noise, resulting in a nice clear sound.
Given the positioning issue, one has to ask themselves if the cup included on the ear bud compromises comfort. The cup is really the key to the sound quality of this product. They do come with several different cups to fit different ear sizes, and after trying out a couple of the cups I found the pair that was the best fit. I can wear them without discomfort for long periods of time and in varied activities. Like any other set of ear buds, they are small in size and light weight. They are more comfortable than some of the standard ear buds that come with popular players.
Construction wise, they seem to be built solidly. My experience thus far is that they can certainly withstand normal use, to include use in wind and weather outdoors. They come with a handsome leather case; it's a nice idea, but I personally have not used the case since the day that I got them. My habit is to keep them attached to my player and carry them around together. Others may choose to keep them in the case, which would probably provide security and prolong their lives.
Overall I am very pleased with these headphones. The only real negative that I would point to would be the price; if I were buying them for myself I don't know that I would make that investment. That said, they are certainly nice to have and several steps above the generic headphones that are in the market.
