ejeffrie's Full Review: Skull Candy Skullcrushers Consumer Headphones
Introduction
I have 5 year old daughter who loves to break our headphones accidentally. She loves to jump around while she is watching her favorite movies and using the computer and somehow she broke most of our headphones. I gave up buying an expensive headphones when my daughter broke my $100 Sony Headphones.
What happened next
We were shopping at our Local Target and I saw the Skull Candy Headphones for $35, at first I really didn't want to buy it because of its brand name (skull -- it didn't sound right) and the price. Who want to buy something with a skull brand and logo on a product and it is expensive, especially for a little kid? I finally decided to buy the pink color one since my daughter loves the pink color.
It didn't break!!!
To my amazement, sure enough my daughter stepped on the headphones again and I almost got a heart attack when I saw that. I was like "Noooooooooo! Not again!" It is because the Skull Candy headphones have several foldable parts, it collapsed, folded when my daughter stepped on it and it didn't break! My daughter brought it to me and she said "Look dad, it is broken!" Then I looked at it and the top part of the Skull Candy headphones that usually breaks on a regular headphones folds in the middle. Yes, the top part folds, so it prevents itself from being broken. I was so happy when I saw that and I went back to Target and bought another pair of headphones for myself.
The Good Features
There are a lot of foldable parts that prevent it from being broken, even if you abuse it a little bit. So if you have kids around the house who love to break things, you gotta buy this headphones.
It feels very good on my ears and head. I really love the built-in cushion on the top part of the headphones, it makes the headphones very comfortable when you use it, it doesn't hurt your head. The cushions on the ear piece are very nice too, it is very comfortable to the ears.
This headphones are great when you use it to watch movies. The clarity of the sound is very good. I am very happy with it. Also, if you like to play computer games, these headphones are perfectly fine.
The Bad Parts
I talked about the good about the headphones already and to be fair, I will tell you what I don't like about the headphones.
The quality of the sound is not as good as Sony or Boose. Even Phillips headphones have a lot better quality of sound. The headphones work fine if I use it to play my computer games, but I want to listen to music. It has a very low bass volume and no matter how high I crank the bass up, it sounds very soft and low.
The price is way too expensive! $35 a piece and that's very expensive, because for $49.95, you can buy the Sony or Phillips headphones with noise canceling feature. The problem with the Sony is, the Sony headphones is not durable.
The cable is too short! I hate this very much! I had to buy an extension cord if I want to watch my movies and lay down at the same time. If you are wondering where to get the extension cord, you can go to your local Best Buy or Radio Shack.
The sound quality is fine when you watch movies or play video games, but for music listening, it is not very good. I am not too happy about it. I really miss my big Sony Headphones, the sound quality of the Sony is a lot better! I'm sorry Skull Candy people, but you guys need to keep up with Sony sound quality.
In Conclusion
This headphones is great when you have kids around your house. Especially when your kids love to destroy stuff. This headphones is great against a little abuse because it doesn't break easily. The bad about it is the quality of sound when you want to listen to your music.
