| bud41's Full Review: Sleep Inn Lynchburg |
Well, I re-enter Epinions with this review after a two year hiatus. I thought I'd come back and see if things have improved...so here goes!
Sleep Inn Lynchburg had the best rate for the night I needed, and the location to match. If you've ever been to a Sleep Inn, they are pretty much cookie-cutter. It's a basic room with that signature round column when you walk in the room- this houses the shower.
At 76.95 and across the street from Liberty University ( my destination), I booked. We arrived early and checked in with no problem. Personnel were quietly friendly and the lobby and breakfast area appeared tidy and clean.
I picked up a local paper on the counter and the desk clerk quietly told me that would be 50 cents. I don't mind paying but it was awkward - most hotels will give you a paper and as a Choice Privileges member...well, what's the privilege? LOL.
The Room
No odd odors, and the room seemed clean and in order. A/C worked well ( glad, too- it was 95 degrees!). TV had expanded cable. The king sized bed was mediocre in comfort and had a dated quilted spread, but the bedding looked and smelled fine. Pillows were reasonably plump.
There's no lamp of any kind. This is typical for Sleep Inn rooms. There are recessed florescent lights on both walls, and a small sconce above an upholstered chair which was surprisingly comfortable.
The built in desk had a straight back chair and a phone. The iron and board looked well-used but worked fine.
The sink is in the room - separate from the water closet. Basic Jhirmack toiletries ( shampoo and soap) were adequate.
The small water closet housed the toilet and walk-in shower ( no tubs at Sleep Inn). The shower was roomy enough and water temp and pressure were good. Lighting was a little dim for me, though.
No fridge or microwave, but the ice/vending area was right across the hall - convenient, but we could hear it in the room! A guest laundry was also housed there and had nice looking machines.
We slept reasonably well - not too many slamming doors, and the blackout curtains were nice.
Location
This hotel is on Candler's Mountain Rd. - the main area for hotels in Lynchburg. It is right on the 460 Expressway so you will hear some street noise at night. It didn't keep us awake though - except for an occasional woofer in a kid's car driving by.
One caveat - if you want to go to River Ridge Mall using 460 - there's a tricky and unseen entrance ramp you will miss if not careful. Miss it and you'll drive several miles before you can turn around. Ask the front desk until you get used to the area.
It's prime convenience is that it is right across the street from Liberty University and the new Thomas Rd. Baptist Church. It is the closest hotel to the complex.
For dining, there are many choices within a mile or two, and an Applebees right next door.
Tip: The coffee house at Thomas Rd. ( across the street) is open until 11:00 pm each night and has a Starbucks-type menu. It's very good. Simply enter the front doors into the "Fellowship Mall" and it's down on the left. A wonderful place to sit and talk or relax. There's also a three story indoor kids playground - public always welcome!.
Breakfast
Complimentary breakfast was rather sparse. It consisted of bagels, cereal, boiled eggs, and muffins. The coffee was decent and the juice was watered down. One mention about in-room coffee. They have neat one-cup makers with self-contained coffee packs. This is very sanitary , easy, and the coffee was good! No coffee carafes to worry about.
Amenities
There is no pool but there is a small work-out room. That's about it for amenities.
Overall, this property met our needs and we would go back if in the area again.
