I generally prefer firmer mattresses, but even I have my limits and I agree that if a mattress is too firm, it can lead to difficulty sleeping, stiffness, and other problems. My wife prefers softer mattresses than I do, so as a compromise, we use mattress toppers to cover our relatively firm mattress. We have used several and often alternative them with the mattress toppers on the other beds in the house, such as those in the guest bedrooms or in the kid’s bedrooms, where they often do not care much about mattress toppers and will accept anything. Removing the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp Memory Foam Topper from the package requires unrolling it and allowing it to expand. The manufacturer says to wait for three full days, but I didn’t wait quite this long and still found it just fine. One side of the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp Memory Foam Topper is flat while the other side has a checkerboard pattern with small ridges that point upward. When you install, it is important to make sure that the checkerboard side faces up, because these ridges serve as a massaging surface. Depending on the thickness of the sheets that cover the topper, these massaging ridges are definitely noticeable and they do add to the overall comfort. As your body slides back and forth, you can feel the ridges against your body and they do have a relaxing effect.

As for softness, the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp Memory Foam Mattress Topper does add a good deal of cushioning to your bed. The topper is three inches thick and heavenly soft, like any foam topper. It makes for a softer sleeping surface, yet it is not so soft that it leads to other problems. From my experience, a too soft sleeping surface is worse than one that is too hard. At least a firm mattress will not affect my back, but a soft sleeping surface can lead to lower back pain. With this mattress topper, there is no back pain. The surface is soft, but not too soft, and the firmness from the mattress underneath provides enough of a foundation that my sleep winds up better than usual.

So far, I have mentioned many positive points about the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp Memory Foam Topper, but are there any flaws? Yes, there are a few, but they do not distract much from the experience. The first problem is that the topper makes it a little more difficult to make the bed. The topper isn’t that thick- only three inches- but it does make it more difficult to attach a fitted sheet and the reason is because the topper is light and unless the sheet is attached tightly and tucked under the mattress in each corner, it will not hold. If you don’t secure it just right, the sheet will keep popping off.  And as for the memory, well, it doesn’t maintain the shape from one night to the next. The topper is very spongy and it conforms itself well while you sleep, but it doesn’t hold the shape for long after you get out of bed.

Overall, I find the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp Mattress Memory Foam Topper a very good mattress topper and one I am glad to add to my topper rotation. The softness level is nice, the massaging surface is relaxing, and the sleep experience is better than average. It  does have a few small flaws, but it is an above average product overall.
