[ hows it TASTE ]
My wife and I tried several other bars before we found the Slim-Fast versions. For the most part, they were pretty bad, but some were atrocious. Why couldnt low-carb be good? I mean, they have been developing for diabetics (who were sugar-free long before Atkins), why not use the same ideas?
When we finally picked up the Slim-Fast bars, we got these and the Chocolate Brownie boxes for $6.99 for 6 bars. Kind of steep, but if we wanted snacks, wed have to splurge to stay within the low-carb regulations'.
I opened my first one that night. It looked like a lot of chocolate peanut butter snack bars -nothing remarkable. So, I took my first bite. Hmm, kind of chewy, but in a good way. Hey, this actually tastes like peanut butter! And chocolate! I took a couple more bites, and found that I actually liked this bar quite a bit. It has a chewy quality to it, which I happen to like, and a texture that matches the regular snack bar versions Ive had elsewhere.
The taste is pretty good unlike the Chocolate Brownie bars, it doesnt have that distinct artificial flavor that many diet snack foods do. To be honest, I wasnt sure that it was a diet product, but the 120 calories (more importantly, only 3 net carbs) proved it. I happily snacked away, savoring the chocolate and peanut butter flavors. In the end, the small bar actually quenched my thirst for sweets and managed to make me feel full, too!
[ final THOUGHTS ]
I would still much rather eat a bowl of ice cream, but these snack bars are great. I take them to work with me for a mid-afternoon snack to tide me over until dinner. They offer great taste especially compared to other bars I have tried and fill me up enough to hold me until dinner. As a true snack, they quench the sugar/chocolate desires both my wife and I harbor. Ive tried other varieties as well (including the new crunchy peanut butter version), but this remains my favorite.
